What Is Voip and Why You Should Use It

For the sake of this article and understanding among those who do not understand what voip is we are going to keep this simple. The main thing in this article is that you understand what it is and how it can benefit you so that you can make a more informed decision for yourself.

Voip stands for (Voice Over Internet Protocol). Quite simply put it is a service or technology that allows phone conversations to happen over the internet rather than through the standard public phone switchboards that we have used for years and years. No need to get into all of the technical mumbo jumbo in this article. All you need to know is that it is an alternative to your current phone service.

Voip services can provide a lot more than just phone conversations as well, but again that is not necessary to discuss here. The biggest advantage of voip is that it gives you an alternative to the common phone company monopolies that exist almost everywhere.

With alternatives comes competition and with competition will come better pricing and customer service from all competitors. There are varied reasons why people choose to use voip services over the standard telephone company. Some of those reasons are:

- Save money, with voip services you can save money. This is in part due to the technology that we are not discussing in this article.

- For businesses it can be a big savings in the infrastructure costs.

- Businesses like the ability to trouble shoot problems themselves rather than always being reliant on the phone company to fix all problems.

- Voip gives flexibility such as adding a new line in a home or office more simply.

There are some down sides to voip as well:

- It relies on your own power. If the power goes out, then like your cordless phones, it is not useable. There are solutions to this such as battery packs on your network to provide power for several hours in the case of a local power outage.

- Voip can be susceptible to attacks, such as you might experience on your pc.

Keep in mind that this is a general and basic article on voip services intended for those who have heard of voip and had no idea what it was. If you are becoming more interested in voip services you should study the subject further and look at several voip service providers to make your final decisions.
