The Clint Eastwood Blockbuster Film - Gran Torino

By Patrick Daniels
Jun 25, 2009
At 78 years old, Clint Eastwood has achieved what many others only dream about. He is best known as Dirty Harry, but in his latest blockbuster, Gran Torino, Eastwood gives the performance of a lifetime.

An incredibly moving story about the relationship between character Walt Kowalski (Eastwood), a retired military veteran, no nonsense kind of guy, who is a widower and wants to live out the rest of his days in peace and without interference from outsiders and Thao, a young Hmong teen who lives next door, and steals his Grand Torino as part of a gang initiation. In an attempt to pay back his debt, Thao shadows Walt in an attempt to learn to become a real man.

As you would imagine, they both learn their lessons along the way, and Walt grows a little less intolerant to the differences in culture between the two, as Thao becomes increasingly responsible in his actions. It sounds like a typical foes becomes friends story, however the acting in this film is incredible, and Eastwood's very serious performance becomes unintentionally humorous at times.

The casting in this film is extremely interesting, because honestly I think that it is the first time that I have seen Clint Eastwood act with a group of amateurs including a group of real gang members, truly adding to the flavor of this film. I also very much enjoyed seeing him play a character his own age, instead of the younger characters that he tends to portray.

Despite the low budget and filming in between Eastwood's filming of the Changeling, it was an impressive and notable performance by all. Out of all Eastwood film Gran Torino is honestly my favorite, thus far. The complex, powerful and tender storyline shows us a side of the actor that no one has seen before. It is a incredible film that both Eastwood fans and fans that enjoy a movie that will have you wrapped up in the characters.
