Water Your Grass If you want your grass to not only live but to look good alive, then your lawn and garden are going to need the proper amount of water. There will always be times when there is not sufficient rainfall in your area. You may experience this on a regular basis if you live in an area where little to no rainfall occurs on a regularly. If either of these is the case, then you will need to step in for Mother Nature and begin to water your own lawn and garden. The following are suggestions to help you with watering your lawn:

1. Keep an eye out for the color of your lawn and garden area. A good sign of drought would be if your grass loses its rich, green color and turns into the color of straw.

2. You should water your lawn during a specific time of day when it is coolest. This can be either early in the morning or later on in the evening just after the sun sets.

3. Watering should happen at a minimum of once a week, but during a drought more watering will be needed, as much as 3 times a week.

4. Do not over water. This will also damage your lawn and garden. Most grass requires about 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week to stay healthy. You can either use a rain gauge to keep track of the amount of water you are supplying or you can use a small can the size of a tuna can or cat food can. Once the can fills up, you are done watering for the day.

The Importance of Fertilization and Weed Control In order to keep your lawn and garden healthy you should properly fertilize and weed it. Most fertilization takes place in the spring when the grass is new. This will promote healthy growth. You want to pick out fertilizers with a combination of nitrogen phosphates and potash.

Although spring time is best for fertilizing your lawn and garden, you can also fertilize once in the summer to help maintain its health. Try to choose a fertilizer with weed control during this time.

Aerate Your Lawn It is important to use your lawn aerator regularly. What is an aerator? It is a tool that will help turn the soil and create holes in the top portion of the soil so that grass roots can get enough water and air. This also allows earthworms (which are a natural form of fertilizer) in to do their work.

You want to use your aerator during the autumn and spring and only use it when your soil is damp. You should also use it just before planting seeds in your lawn or garden for optimal growth. Using your lawn aerator on a regular basis will help you to create a beautiful lawn, garden and landscape.

These are just a few things you should know about getting your lawn to be more beautiful.
