Different Uses For A Conservatory

By Thomas Pretty
Jun 25, 2009
Many homes have a conservatory, typically decorated with blinds and even in some cases frosted glass. Conservatories however have a variety of different functions depending upon the homeowner that uses them. Ultimately the purpose of this article is to highlight the different uses of the conservatory, the blinds used within them and how they are decorated.

A large number of conservatory users utilise their glass house as a children's playroom. This is an excellent use for conservatories, keeping the kids out of the way of the kitchen and preventing them from getting underneath grown up's feet. However it is important to ensure that the room is safe for small children to use. This includes using safety glass, socket guards and blinds with rods rather than pull strings; by doing this it should be possible to have a safe play room.

An equal number of homeowners choose to utilise their conservatory as a second living room. This can be the perfect way to create a retreat from the children and have a specific room for relaxing all year round. Naturally installing blinds can be advisable so that the heat of the sun does not make the room too hot, ensuring that the room is a comfortable temperature.

Having the benefits of outdoor living inside can also make conservatories the ideal location for a home office. Many people who work from home find the inspiration of seeing the garden and enjoying the sunshine whilst working extremely helpful; aiding them in being more productive.

As many modern homes do not have a dedicated room for dining a conservatory can be the ideal addition to a kitchen; enlarging the space for eating and having family meals. Once again blinds can be extremely useful in controlling the temperature, ensuring that the room is not too hot for eating.

For those decorating a conservatory it is important to utilise the benefits that a glass house can bring. Understandably it is possible to grow exotic plants within conservatories as they will be protected from the elements and will be able to make the most of the sunlight. Additionally, while it may be a brilliant idea to house a living room within a conservatory, it is worth remembering that blinds or curtains will be needed for watching television in order to reduce glare on the screen.

Hopefully this article has presented some of the ways in which building a conservatory can be beneficial to a home. No matter what type of usage conservatories experience, they remain an excellent way to bring the outside inside.
