The Benefits Of Installing Vertical Blinds

For homes with large windows one of the best options for coverings are vertical blinds. Large windows, while being excellent at bathing interiors with light can be a problem in some instances. In the winter it is undeniable that the extra light is a blessing, however in the summer months the incredibly bright sun can do damage to soft furnishings and other pieces of furniture, hence the viability of installing vertical blinds to shield these valuable items from the elements.

In the past vertical blinds have been predominantly used within commercial and industrial buildings, being somewhat ignored within the domestic sphere. This is however changing, the decorative properties of these window coverings finally being realised. As previously stated the benefits of prolonging the life of soft furnishings is a major reason behind this growth in popularity.

Vertical blinds also have thermal benefits that can help to reduce bills. For example, in the summer months when the sun is raising the temperature of a room, more money is spent on air conditioning, by having thick blinds it is possible to keep the ambient temperature low, ultimately reducing electricity bills. In contrast, thick verticals are the ideal way to keep the heat in, large windows being one of the leading causes of heat loss within homes.

Vertical blinds do not however only make financial sense. As they are becoming more popular in the domestic sphere companies are now manufacturing blinds incorporating different designs and colours. In addition verticals are available in a number of different materials; of these the most popular are aluminium and fabric. Whilst the design options with aluminium are more diverse, this material is susceptible to damage, meaning that slats will have to be replaced more often. On the other hand fabric varieties are more durable although are considered by many to be harder to keep clean.

By installing vertical blinds in your home, whether they are aluminium or fabric you are taking steps towards a money saving and healthy option. The financial benefits have already been discussed but what is lesser known is that vertical blinds can be an excellent way to reduce eye strain and headaches from bright sunlight, vastly improving your quality of life.

The final benefit of having vertical installed is that glare within the room is reduced. This means that reading is made easy and does not strain the eyes too much. Additionally, watching television during the day is not a problem as screen glare is practically negated.

Hopefully this article has presented some of the major benefits of installing vertical blinds. With so many options available on the market today homeowners are blessed with almost endless design themes. No matter the design however, this form of window covering should be considered essential for those people with large windows.
