MLS Tickets- Real Salt Lake 2, Galaxy 0
Real Salt Lake had no problems defeating a team with a 10-game unbeaten streak. Nat Borchers and Yura Movsisyan scored to lead RSL to a 2-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Galaxy. Goalkeeper Nick Rimando was sharp in net, making five saves to earn his third shutout of the season. RSL (4-6-3) won their first road match and snapped a seven-game losing streak. Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis summed up the game with two words when he said, "It's immeasurable." The coach added that there has been a lot of disappointment around his club for a long time. But this match finally came for the RSL after losing for quite some time. Get MLS tickets and see Movsisyan.
The coach told his team in the locker room that they were finally back in action. Movsisyan said the winless streak was going to snap at any time, especially since the team came close to victory and tied their previous match against Colorado on June 6th. The forward continued to say that after that game, a lot of guys on the team started to play with urgency and, most importantly, started to believe in each other. Movsisyan knows that a lot of people outside the locker room does not believe in RSL, but he believes that if the team can play with confidence, no opponent can stop them. The Galaxy (2-2-9) experienced their first loss since a 3-2 defeat against the Colorado Rapids in early April.
L.A. played without their star player, Landon Donovan, who was with the United States' national team for the World qualifying and FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa. The Galaxy had eight draws prior to their loss against RSL. Los Angeles coach Bruce Arena admitted his club was outplayed. The coach also gave a lot of credit to Movsisyan and his midfield teammates, Kyle Beckerman and Javier Morales. Arena knew Movsisyan, Morales and Beckerman dominated his club. The coach told the press that his team lacked discipline against RSL. Movsisyan didn't waste any time putting his team on the score board. He received a pass from Clint Mathis, and then made a nice move against defender Gregg Berhalter before he hammered a 9-yard shot that went off goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts' palms and went into the net.
The goal came in the 13th minute. Movsisyan said his team is playing with confidence and stated that as a team they are playing good soccer. Borchers scored the second goal of the game and gave RSL a 2-0 lead in the 51st minute. Mathis' pass off Morales' corner kick ricocheted off Galaxy midfielder Eddie Lewis, and ended up right in front of Borchers. The defender drilled the ball from seven yards out and beat Ricketts. Rimando made three huge saves in the first 15 minutes of the contest to keep Los Angeles scoreless. He robbed Omar Gonzalez's shot in the seventh minute, and then knocked away Dema Kovalenko's 18-yard shot before blocking Lewis' rebound chance in the 15th minute of the game. L.A. played with 10 men after Lewis got a red card in the 65th minute.
