Door Locks: Why You Should Care
In our busy lives, there are always a million different issues begging for our attention. The kids need to get to school, the oil in the car needs to be changed, the plants need watering, your boss at work is screaming for your attention, it can be a stretch to get the bare essentials done! Our lives are busier than they ever have been before, and it seems like we have less and less time to ourselves.
Given the number of different people who are screaming for your limited attention and time, its a wonder how anyone ever gets anything done that isnt completely essential. One unfortunate bi-product of the intensity of our lives, though, is that sometimes we resultantly neglect tasks and issues that are actually quite important.
One issue that is quite easy to ignore is that of our home security. Its very easy to become lulled into a sense of complacency by redirecting our attention to things that seem more present. We simply dont think that anyone would ever actually attempt to break into our homes to harm us or take our possessions. But the sad fact is, that home burglary is a very common occurrence.
As a home security expert, I implore you to take a few moments out of your busy schedule to reconsider the security of your home. When viewed objectively, its very shocking how little energy most people devote to keeping their homes safe. There are actually a few quick and easy steps that you can take that can really make the difference.
The next time you come in the door from work, take a minute or too and have a look at your front and back door locks. They're probably older than you think, and while they may still technically "work" in the sense that they still function, they probably are not as sturdy as you think, and might be an important weakness in your defense against home invasion.
In recent years, industrial techniques and technology have improved drastically. The market is now flooded with cheaper, better, more efficient products than ever before, which is wonderful for consumers and for the market. Of course, in the reverse angle, criminals have become significantly more educated, and now have better tools and skills of their own to thwart more advanced securities; in other words, the same lock which five years ago would have been just fine, is now dated and inefficient.
Not only is upgrading your existing lock easy to do, it is also comparatively inexpensive. Another great way to quickly and effectively upgrade your security is to check secondary entrance points, such as windows or crawl spaces. Make sure that your window locks are in good condition, and if they are not, then supplement or replace them with newer, more up to date models.
Now, I understand that most of the people who read this article are not going to run out and purchase complete new security systems for their homes. What I am suggesting, however, is that as homeowners we can and should make time and devote the energy to the simple things that will keep our investments and our families safe and secure!
