Is a Plastic Car in Your Future?
Development of plastic cars could rejuvenate the American auto industry. With the recent bankruptcy of Chrysler and the financial problems at the other US based automobile manufacturers; it may be time for the management to take a deeper look at producing cars made of plastic. The heavy, gas drinking cars of the past should become the exception rather than the rule.
Plastic cars are more affordable than steel built cars, so more people could afford to own a new car. This would help stimulate the economy which would increase jobs. American is ready for some major changes and switching to plastic cars would be a good start. Driving fuel efficient cars would reduce our dependence on foreign oil which would help keep the price of gas low. If we don't do something we could see gas prices back at five dollars per gallon like it was in the fall of 2008.
The idea of driving a plastic car is more popular in Europe and other countries than it has been in the United States. The price of fuel and the affordability of plastic cars have increased the demand for plastic cars over the last few years. One of the biggest companies to manufacture plastic cars is in India, an area where you may see as many as four people on a moped to get where they need to go. The increased production of plastic cars makes it likely that more Indians will be able to afford transportation for their family.
Space age plastics make the cars just as safe as traditionally made steel automobiles. The lighter weight of the plastic cars, which typically weigh only a third of what a steel automobile weighs, make plastic cars very fuel efficient. Some models get in excess of sixty miles per gallon of gas which is unheard of in a traditionally built steel car.
Plastic cars can also be designed into sleek, powerful looking machines. One such plastic car, called by some "the glass car" due to its transparent body, debuted at the Geneva Motor show in 2007. This plastic car that even has a see through floor board is made of Makrolon a super plastic made by Bayer Material Science.
Plastic cars are very durable and they are less expensive to repair than a steel or fiberglass automobile. The plastic can be molded easier so it is possible to design comfortable ergonomically designed vehicles at a lower cost. The body of a plastic car is more resilient so dents and dings would be less frequent. All these things are a plus when you think about purchasing a plastic car.
As the auto industry recovers from the financial ruin they have experienced this year, it is likely that you will see more focus on cars that we really need to see more of: plastic cars. People will buy them because they can afford to buy a plastic car. This will help put Americans back to work so they can drive to work in their new plastic car.
