Hardwood floors are an excellent way to add a quality luxury feeling to your home. With more people than ever looking for ways to improve their homes rather than sell, homeowners are seeking unique ways to set their homes apart from others. As a result, manufacturers have come up with several new and stunningly beautiful ideas that are giving hardwood flooring a whole new look.

New Color Options For Hardwood Floors

Previously, hardwood floors were sold with a natural lacquer finish, or a dark color to add a bit of richness to the look of a room. But today, hardwood flooring in a wide variety of stains are making their way into homes. The newest trend is medium colors and materials including nutmeg, cherry, cinnamon, and caramel. This is a light stain put onto the hardwood before the finish, or tinted with lacquer to achieve a warmer color while still showing off the beauty of the natural grain.

Homeowners and designers are also using many other colors with great success. Light tints of yellow, green, blue, red, purple and several others. These colors are used throughout the entire space, or in conjunction with other colors to create designs and patterns for a truly unique look.

New Hardwood Flooring Manufacturing Processes

How each piece of wood is manufactured, from the moment it's cut until it's installed on your floor can change the way each piece of wood looks. Quarter-sawn wood such as oak has a tight vertical graining that looks beautiful and makes the wood far more durable. With some woods such as maple, you can order select versions such as tiger mark maple with bands of pearlized graining, or bird's eye maple with groups of miniature knots that look very much like eyes.

Some manufacturers apply special treatments or use different pieces to create an individualized look. Lower grade flooring that contains a large number of knots, mineral streaks, and markings look rustic and can add a whimsical touch to any room in the house. For a homey lived-in look, you can select styles that have been distressed by hand. If you would like to darken naturally light-colored wood, consider styles that have been naturally darkened through steaming.

Wood Species

As a result of our more global economy, consumers now have easier access to unique wood species from all over the world -- from Germany, to South America, Africa, Russia, and beyond. These woods often have unique patterns, brilliant colors, and interesting textures; something different to add a fresh and unusual touch to your home. You'll find that the exotic species add something just a little different that creates a room you will instantly fall in love with.

Hardwood floors are a beautiful addition to a home of any size. And, by familiarizing yourself with the newest trends in hardwood flooring, you can enjoy a home that is unmistakably yours and expresses your own personality and style.
