Educational Children's Toys - Helping Them Learn While They Play

As parents, keeping our children happy and entertained is often our first priority; a bored child is usually an unhappy child and they may end up finding themselves in mischief to alleviate their boredom. Many of us use children's toys as a way to keep them entertained, but many people don't realise the educational value which toys can have, helping our children learn while they play.

When a child is playing with their toys they are usually paying attention to what they are doing, making it a perfect time to slip in some education. Studies dating back to the 1940's have shown that the IQ of a child can be greatly increased in their first six years, making educational children's toys an excellent investment, both to keep them entertained now, but also for their future.

Though it's not recommended to completely eschew the currently popular toys from your child's toy box from a socialisation point of view, having at least a few educational children's toys around - particularly age appropriate ones - can be a valuable aid to their development. A toddler who is developing their language skills for example, would benefit from toys which will support this, such as flash cards, whereas a baby who is just learning to focus their eyes would find something colourful which they can grab useful as this will help build up their hand- eye co-ordination.

Although the correct choice of playthings can be a valuable step in ensuring that your child develops their intellect and their motor skills at an early age, parental input and support is the most important part of the equation. Playing with your child and assisting with educational activities is vital to helping them develop; encouraging them with problems they are finding difficult and praising them when they succeed will help them with both their educational and also their emotional development.

As parents, we always want what is best for our offspring, and providing the right balance of educational and fun children's toys is an excellent way to invest in their future while keeping them happy and entertained. Though only a part of the puzzle to making your children grow up happy and successful, in the world we live in it makes sense to do what we can to aid this process.

Often costing less than you may think, educational toys coupled with you spending time with them can be the ideal developmental aid, helping your child learn while they play.
