Who's Staying And Who's Bailing: Relationships Using The Sun Sign In Astrology

Aug 17, 2007
Sun signs are known by the date of birth and are the most recognized in popular astrology for prediction in magazines, newspapers and online. They are used because they are such a strong indication of a person's central self and stamina. We can use this as a way to determine how someone deals with relationships, and how long they can or will hang in there.

Sun signs can be supportive of each other, working reciprocally to supply what the other lacks in stamina and strength. Sun signs that work together make life a lot easier by reducing the need for one of the people to be the authority, the leader, or the person who will hold things together at all times, even if the other is slacking, knowingly or not.

If the sun signs are in conflict, this will set off a contest of wills and cause stress. If the two sun signs are in a difficult angle to one another there will be times when the two will face off and have to come to a compromise or go to their respective corners. This can get ugly, although some signs actually may enjoy the stimulation and challenge. Sometimes signs are just not so concerned about relating to a significant other, or have trouble rising to meet the needs of the relationship.

Let's get to it. Sun signs which are the most likely to bail when things get difficult, or who may have a more difficult time with long-term intimate relationships:

Aries: Looses temper easily, saying and doing rash things. Can be childish.
Gemini: Just gets bored, or needs more stimulation and wanders. Daily routine holds no interest.
Sagittarius: Has too many outside interests, or travels too much and the relationship just expires. Feels trapped.
Aquarius: Dislikes intimacy to begin with and just wants to be friends, or needs so much space that there is practically no meaningful contact with the partner.
Pisces: Tends to be blind to a partners' faults, leaving when the ideals are shattered. Has a hard time handling stress in a relationship.
Scorpio: If the partnership is too shallow or the needs are not met they are not afraid to cut their losses and bolt.

Stronger signs for long-term relationship are:

Taurus: Once they are with you it takes a herd of horses to tear them away. Very loyal. They will go down in flames before they give up on a relationship.
Cancer: Once they get emotionally involved they will always be concerned about your well-being, even in the case of divorce.
Leo: At best, they strive to be looked up to as the model partner and parent. Warm and steady, they radiate energy like the sun. Loves to be the hero who saves the day.
Virgo: Great at determining what is and what is not working and adjusting to meet the need of the relationship.
Libra: The ultimate partner-up person. Loves to relate to the partners point of view and is willing to compromise for the sake of the whole.
Scorpio: The only one to appear in both categories. The strength of Scorpio is in perseverance to obtain the ideal intimacy in a relationship. They can remake themselves if needed, and can resurrect a seemingly lifeless union.
Capricorn: Anything that needs doing to cement the strength or efficiency of the union will be done. They never rest and they are duty-bound.

These descriptions are good for starters, but astrology and people are more complex than just the sun signs. For instance, if someone's sun has close contact with another planet in their own chart, the person is going to exhibit characteristics of that planet as well as their own sun sign. But there will still be influence of the sign of the sun because it, along with the moon, is so great an influence on the basic personality.

Don't forget that signs are just guideposts. When you do find that compatible person, you will have to use more than astrology to judge the ability of the relationship to succeed. Maturity and ability to communicate have big roles in this. Not everyone is cut out to be in a committed intimate relationship no matter what they tell themselves, and lastly, even with the best of intentions, people change.

Despite all these factors, knowing a little about the sun sign will give you a good starting point with which to judge whether your relationship is headed down the path to a long and steady relationship.
