How Venues In The UK Get Good Reviews

By Dominic Donaldson

To get ahead as a prominent venue, you need to impress the critics before you can impress customers. Gaining column coverage on review sites or in publications can make all the difference to promoting venues in the UK. We take a look at what it takes to impress industry leaders and location scouts when refurbishing a venue.

The decor of your venue should reflect the purpose it is going to be used for. Many places can accommodate a range of events to take place such as weddings, wakes, charity events and conferences. Each of these events requires different facilities and equipment as well as the right licenses for the use of the premises.

Critics look for quality no matter what the purpose is, and the location can determine how high that quality needs to be. The aim is to either find a niche in the market or to outdo the nearest competitors. Choose a few key pieces by famous designers or artists. This can be furniture, sculpture, paintings or fittings. There are many designers who specialise in refurbishing entire venues, designing everything from the pattern of the carpet to the shape of the seats.

Opting for high quality equipment is a must too, especially if the intended purpose is for entertainment such as a music venue or conference suite. Inferior quality equipment will not only break sooner, but it will not leave a lasting impression on guests or critics. The competitive market of UK venues dictates that the stakes are always high when refurbishing to a budget.

Critics are always impressed by quirky features, so include something unique in your venue that will give a good reason to write a review. This could be a swimming pool in the middle of a dance area, a themed theatre area or simply having a selection of services that are not offered elsewhere. Telephones connecting restaurant tables or bar staff in fancy dress are themes that have given notoriety to a couple of UK venues.

Ultimately, it is the ability to think outside the box and offer a service that is unique or create a space that does not exist anywhere else that will draw the attention of people across the country. You want to attract clientele to your venue before they book anywhere else. Critics and guests alike want an event to remember and impress whether it is for a private party, public event or just a night out with friends. Success is in the selection.
