Online Dating: Blow Him or Her Away Over the Phone
You want to get your fledgling internet dating relationship off to a good start, right? And while email and chats can tell you quite a lot about someone, the first five minutes of a telephone conversation will tell you even more. Your voice is a powerful tool, so read on about some tips to make that first phone conversation count.
Don't have that first conversation if you're not feeling well. From the moment you start talking you give an impression; and if you're not feeling 100 percent then chances are that impression is going to be unfavorable. So if you're sleep deprived, have a cold or flu or you're just hungover, let the answering machine take a message. If, on the other hand, you feel at the top of your game, then that will translate into a positive impression, so pick up the phone and say 'Hi!'.
Look sexy for that call. When you feel good about the way you look, it shows in your voice. You're more confident, you feel more sensual, and so you're more appealing. So if possible, take the time to doll yourself up a bit before you chat with your date. That confidence will come through over the phone in a million subtle and subconscious ways.
Smile, smile, smile. This is probably the most important part of creating a good first impression when you talk to somebody from an internet dating site for the first time. A smile isn't only something that you see; a smile is something that you can hear in a person's voice. So smile when you pick up the phone and say "hello," smile when you talk about your life, and keep that smile going the whole time. It will make you sound bright and appealing. Have trouble keeping that smile in your voice? Talk on the phone in front of the mirror if you have to.
Stop fidgeting. You can always tell when someone's not interested in what you're saying when you're talking face to face. When you're fidgety or making strange faces while talking on the phone you can bet that the listener can sense it and you'll be perceived as less than desirable.
Chat with a friend first. Tend to get nervous before that first phone call with your internet date? Make a date to chat on the phone with a friend first. Having a positive, fun call beforehand can help you to relax and get used to sounding cheery, positive, and happy. It'll also put you in a good mood, which is a great way to start any date-- including one over the phone.
Pour yourself a drink. I'm not advising you to drink a whole bottle of wine, but one glass probably wouldn't hurt. As a matter of fact, if you want to be able to answer the question 'so, what are you doing?' you'll have a ready made answer. 'I'm drinking a glass of wine' sounds a lot more fun than 'I dunno'.
Here's a tip for sounding sexy and sultry on the phone; catch a cold. Not a hacking coughing kind of cold, just one changes the timber of your voice. This one's a bit tricky though; stuffy noses aren't sexy at all!
