They aid in the proper alignment of the spinal vertebrae and the body as a whole.

They are also very effective at providing a way to cushion and relieve tension in the lower body, the neck, and the upper body when yogis are doing their poses, especially when new poses are still being learned and mastered. They are light and also can be easily carried around, put in a mat bag, or stored in the corner of a room. They can fit in a closet without taking up too much space, too.

The yoga bolsters are available in a large variety of sizes, colors, shapes, and materials that are designed to fit many different needs and practices for yoga. There are many types of bolsters such as cylindrical, rectangular, Zafu, and others. Usually, cylindrical ones are larger and much more firm than those that are rectangular.
