Is It Necessary To Provide Insurance For My Courier Driver?

When you first hire a dedicated courier driver from a Tampa courier service, you might reasonably not have much of an idea as to what responsibilities are handled by the company, and which you have to worry about, especially before you have had a chance to read the entire agreement between the company and yourself.

When trying to sort out the responsibilities between the courier company and the shipping company, one of the most common questions which arise has to do with the question of insurance. Insurance can be complicated at the best of times, and so it is often responsible for much confusion in situations like the one described.

Under almost every circumstance, you will not have to worry about insuring your driver moving your goods on behalf of the courier company. There are several different types of insurance that all courier companies must have in place, and most of these are going to provide enough coverage for your purposes unless you are shipping goods worth a particularly high amount of money.

The courier company must have insurance on the driver and the vehicle to protect them in the event of any kind of traffic collision or accident, but they will also have additional courier insurance which will cover the value of the goods that the driver is carrying with him if anything should cause damage to them. This insurance is usually comprehensive enough that it will cover any circumstance which could be imagined to cause damage to the packages that you are shipping with the company.

This means that most of the time you aren't going to have to worry about insurance. However, if you are shipping high cost goods, as an example, something that someone in the tech industry might be shipping, then you may not have the value of your goods completely covered by the insurance which is provided by the courier company. In this situation it is important for you to buy extra insurance to cover the value of your goods.

Even if most of your shipped goods are covered, or most of the value is, if you did experience something which caused a loss it could certainly cost your company more than the value of the insurance would cost. It only makes sense to protect yourself up to the full dollar value of any shipping you do, so be sure to find out how much is covered, and how close that is to the value of your goods.
