L.A. Car Donations Save People From Homelessness
If you live in Los Angeles, you know how many people there are who aren't financially able to buy a car or vehicle and see the rampant growth of the homeless consistently during your day as you pass them by as you drive along. It makes you wonder what you could do sometimes, doesn't it? At one time, a lot of these people were just like you, going to work, living happy and full lives and not being a burden to anyone. It seems hopeless sometimes. However, this can change if more people were willing to do something to help. There are charities and other venues that accept vehicles that are donated.
When the homeless follow through with programs that help them get on their feet, transportation can become a hindrance sometimes. Single people need reliable transport to work and other things. Mothers and fathers alike need a way to get to and from their children's schools or even to the hospital in emergency situations. In fact, right now there are thousands of people who fortunately aren't homeless yet and may have lost their vehicles due to problems or lack of funds. They benefit greatly from charities because of this; they don't lose their jobs as it supports opportunity and growth.
It's a simple process to donate your vehicle. Investigate your local charities or programs and choose one. Afterwards, tell them where the car, truck or minivan is located, describe the model and condition, and clean out your vehicle prior to leaving the keys and signed title in it. What's great is that you don't even have to be around when they pick it up. Once it's towed, they become responsible for everything related to the vehicle. Prior to them taking it, they will have you sign a "release of liability" form. This contract ensures that you and the charity agree that you both know what is going to happen with the vehicle (it will be rebuilt or used for parts) after it is taken. You don't even have to remove the plates and send them to the DMV. Then, you can file out your taxes and receive a tax credit which is based on your car's condition.
You don't have to take your car to the dump. You can get more than a scrapyard would give. Even if it's a lemon, very old, totally ugly, has engine trouble or a combination thereof, it could be reconditioned or used to fix another vehicle like it. Even buses and boats can be given away and upgraded for churches and other groups.
