Making the Move to Maui

Whether you are attracted to the D.T. Fleming Beach in Kapalua or the Keawakapu Beach in Kihei, the possibilities of attending Luau's almost every day of the week, or diving a volcanic crater off the coast of Wailea, Maui is, hands down, one of the best places for active people.

The laid back, yet still fast paced atmosphere of Maui make up one of the prime living destinations for many people. Once you have decided on moving to Maui, you might want to learn a little about what the move will take.

Making the move to Maui is well worth anything that you will go through. There are a few things to consider when making the move that will help you prepare to the transition of the lifestyle you have always wanted.

Pets
If you have any pets, especially dogs and cats, you should be aware of Hawaii's quarantine law, which is designed to keep the islands and all inhabitants safe from health problems associated with rabies. Many animals have to spend 30-45 days in quarantine, but there are ways that you can reduce the stay to only five days, with the appropriate paper work.

Some pets are strictly prohibited on the island, such as non-domesticated cats and dogs. The last thing the government wants is to endanger the already struggling population of wild animals by introducing them to new predators. Make sure you consider all rules and regulations if you consider getting a pet before you make the move to Maui.

If you absolutely need a pet before you go, get one from a highly trusted breeder who has all papers from birth as this will be your best chance for having the reduced quarantine time once you get to the islands.

Lifestyle
It is undeniable, lifestyle on Maui is probably the best in the world. If there is such a thing as paradise on Earth, Maui is it. With the white sandy beaches, constant breeze and near-perfect temperatures year round, Maui has everything that a person could look for.

Along with that perfect climate come a few critters, which also like to bask in the warmth of the island. If you don't mind the occasional tropical pet waiting for you at home, then the island is the perfect place for you.

Nightlife in Maui is top notch, combine that with the designer shopping locations and five star dining facilities that pepper the island and you have an automatic combination for success. The diversity on the island makes the atmosphere that much more vibrant and colorful. With food establishments ranging from Mexican and French to traditional Hawaiian there is something to satisfy everyone.

Of course, you can't forget the beaches; no one can forget the beaches. South Maui holds the dynamic duo of beaches, Big Beach and Little Beach, named for their respective size. Along with the pristine white sand on the south beaches, there are black and red sand beaches on the East shore of the island at Wai'anapanapa State Park and Kaihalulu beach. The North and West shores have fewer beaches, but they are no less spectacular.

Cost of Living
Maui is generally referred to as the most expensive of the islands. This high price tag comes with about anything purchased on the island, from standard groceries to the Vera Wang evening gown used to style around town.

Many skeptics state that Maui is only for the rich and famous, but they are extremely mistaken. If you have money, studies have shown that the cost of living in Maui is up to 60% more than the national average, and are looking for the lavish lifestyle that encompasses Maui then you are moving to the right place.

On the other hand, if you are not made out of green, like most people in the world, but are looking for the laid back, beach bum style of living, Maui is also the perfect place. As with anywhere you will live, you can find the niche you fit into easily and adapt from there.

A general rule about the islands is "work hard; play hard." Some people work two jobs to support their lifestyles and pay their bills, but when that whistle blows at the end of the workday, there is no place they would rather be than Maui.

No matter why you are looking to move to Maui, there is a place for everyone. With its rich culture and undeniable beauty, if you are considering the move, you have picked the right place. Aloha and welcome to Maui.
