Dress up Your Bedroom with Lighting
Gone are the days when the bedroom was just used for sleeping and unwinding. It has now become a multi task room. Offices are now incorporated into the bedroom and also TV and entertainment centers.
Because of these facts lighting needs to be carefully planned, firstly ambient or general illumination needs to be considered. This is often recessed ceiling lighting. Sometimes you may want a bright light and at other times you may want less illumination. You can use a dimmer for better versatility. This will allow you to have a bright light for working, like getting dressed or a softer light for relaxing. You can even turn down the light quite considerably for watching TV.
The sides of the bedroom are utilized for different work and need various task lighting. A corner of the room or the bed is commonly used for reading. This makes table lamps a necessity. Installing them on both sides of the bed allows flexibility, as one partner may want to read and the other one can sleep. Angle lamps attached to the bed post can be slid up and down, this allows for better illumination.
Floor lamps can be good if you have a corner of the room reserved for reading. You can relax in your favorite chair, enjoy a good book and have a nice bright lamp to read by. Floor lamps should be 10" behind the shoulder and 47" high for optimum reading illumination.
Your office space will often be a table against a wall of your bedroom. A desk lamp will be required as a task light for a computer or office area. Two good alternatives for getting a bright light are a regular office lamp or an angle poise light.
Accent lighting can also be used to make your bedroom more interesting. You can spotlight art work or unique ornaments in niches. LED light bars can be used for this purpose. LED lighting produces bright directional light which is ideal for highlighting an object. This will make your bedroom more interesting and unique.
Using different colors and styles of shades for table lamps can be very decorative. Create interest and enhance your decor with chic lamp shades. Make a unique feel to a room by using oriental style lamps. With pastel shades you can create a softer radiance and have a more laid back feel to the room.
Track lighting used around the ceiling will make it appear higher. This will make things seem more relaxed and also be helpful as a night light. You can turn these up or down to change the lighting effects.
