Building an Indoor Herb Garden - The Journey
The best way I find to get the fullest flavor when cooking is to use Fresh Herbs. So, I need to have a crop nearby to use, as I am normally disappointed with the ones I buy in the Supermarket.
I am told that the taste of the herb dissipates very quickly from the time it is originally picked. So, freshly picked is the way to go.
To date, I have been growing fresh herbs outside the back of my garage, down some steps from the deck outside the kitchen as well as some on the deck itself.
The ones on the deck are grown in normal soil and the results have been mixed, it is currently winter here in Sydney Australia " so, not expecting too much growth " in the summer I get good results from this way of growing.
By using a Hydroponics System I purchased a year ago, I have been getting great results, all the year round.
So, what is my Indoor Herb Garden Challenge about you would be asking yourself!
Well, it seems that I have a lazy streak, well hidden, I hope but a lazy streak nonetheless. While I have these great herbs within 20 paces or so, I find it a bit of chore to go outside and pick them while I am preparing food!
So, it struck me recently, how great it would be to just have them growing on the bench or in the kitchen window and I could have my very own indoor herb garden, where I just lean over and pick the herb I need to use and then it keeps growing and refreshing itself.
The solution may well be to go out and buy a commercially developed product that will do the job for me. I have thought about this, but have heard some bad reports on them, especially about one with a lamp system which may be a bit noisy. Another one is meant to be good but is not for sale down here.
Anyway, I thought, why not try to duplicate my success with the Hydroponics system outside and use it to build my very unique Indoor Herb Garden?
That is what my Indoor Herb Garden Blog is all about.
In addition to keeping a journal of my efforts, this should help me to understand the internet better.
Despite the fact I am living in Sydney Australia, this should be useful worldwide as we all have indoors.
I am sure there will be lots of people saying I cant do it for a variety of valid scientific reasons, but as they say in Australia " Give It A Go You Mug !!!
So, wish me luck!
