Cosmetic Dentistry Will Make You Smile
In our society we understand the need to look nice. We want our appearance to make a strong and positive impression and thus strive for a cleaner and more attractive look.
In this endeavor we try to wear better looking clothes and style our hair in more attractive manners. We also try to watch what we eat and get a little exercise every now and again.
The funny thing about the way we try to enhance our appearance is that the first thing most people notice upon meeting someone is the other person's smile. They notice the teeth and as a result the smile plays a significant role in either improving or detracting from one's appearance.
As we have grown to understand this a new type of dentistry has evolved called cosmetic dentistry. This industry exists solely to improve the look and aesthetic quality of your teeth so you can feel more confident in your smile.
It can be so frustrating when you have an imperfect smile. If something is going wrong with your hair or clothes you can simply change it and move on.
The problem with teeth is you cannot do too much to improve their appearance in your own home. You cannot simply change how one looks or move it around without the help of dentists.
One thing cosmetic dentists can do is whiten your teeth. When teeth are dark or discolored your overall appearance is not as crisp and fresh.
As more and more people have come to want whiter teeth many at-home kits have emerged. These kits work well to whiten the teeth but do not offer a long-term nor controlled solution.
When you get your teeth professionally whitened the dentist has control over what the resulting color will be. Because of this your teeth will not come out too yellow nor will they get over-whitened to the point of translucency.
Professionally whitened teeth last whiter a lot longer than teeth whitened at home. When you choose to go with a cosmetic dentist to whiten your teeth you are guaranteeing yourself better outcomes with longer lasting results.
If you have chips, cracks, or gaps in your smile you can get them filled through a process known as dental bonding. Cosmetic dentists can mix together a composite material designed to look exactly like your teeth.
In order to ensure the composite material sticks to your teeth the dentist will just slightly roughen up the enamel. This is done in such a non-evasive way that it cannot be seen with the naked eye.
The composite material is then added to the tooth where the fault is. It acts as an extra layer of protection so any concern you had with losing some enamel can be tossed aside.
Sometimes the problem goes beyond a simple gap or crack but can be that you are missing a tooth. This can cause insecurity because your smile has a hole in it.
Thanks to the new solution of getting a prosthetic tooth, cosmetic dentists can fix this problem. They start out by taking a screw which they insert up in the jaw line.
When the screw establishes itself in the bone then it is strong enough to have the tooth attached. The dentist will then take a prosthetic tooth, designed to look exactly like your other teeth, and screw it on to the uncovered end of the screw.
There are some people who want to change the complete appearance of their smile. The good news for them is cosmetic dentists can do this as well.
Known as a smile makeover, this technique can get you the perfect smile you have always dreamed about. In doing this the dentist simply attaches a porcelain veneer cover to the front of all your teeth.
These porcelain veneers are stronger than your actual enamel so can actually protect your teeth better. They are also designed to be all the same so your teeth will look perfectly sized and spaced when they are attached.
Anyone with a dental license can practice cosmetic dentistry. Because of this it is important you look for someone with a more artistic eye.
Regular dentistry is pretty technical and requires a scientist's mind. Cosmetic dentistry changes this as the dentist looks at design and color all day.
It is important you make sure you feel confident in the dentist you are choosing to go to. Ask around for references to ensure they are able and talented.
You can also walk into any cosmetic dental office and ask to see a portfolio of past work. When you find a dentist whose past work you like you can feel confident that you will get your dream smile.
