Why You Won't Lose Weight With Starvation Diets?
Why are starvation diets so unsuccessful in the long term? Because they are starvation diets. You don't have to starve in order to lose weight. Actually, you shouldn't. In this article we will take a look at why these mainstream reduction diets don't work.
Reduction or starvation diets are diets that advise consuming very little calories, sometimes even less that 1000 calories a day. The idea is that calorie deficit will produce weight loss. Of course, it will, and in the short term you will definitely lose weight. But because of how your body functions, it won't last very long. It can even cause serious health problems.
In U.S., the number of people who are overweight or obese is staggering. More that two thirds of American population is overweight and the numbers are still increasing. Many try very hard to lose weight, but a very low percentage is actually successful. More than 95% of people who try typical low calorie, low fat, or low carb diets fail.
Our bodies are smarter then we usually think. If you decide to starve to lose weight, you body is not just going to sit still and do nothing. It will adapt, it will try to survive with as little energy as possible. When this happens we say the body went into starvation mode. This is not good, if you want to lose weight.
Starvation mode is a response to a decreased calorie intake. It lowers your metabolic rate, giving you the ability to more efficiently store energy on less food. In other words, every last scrap of energy (calories) that is not burned, will be stored and made available for later use. So now you have a talent to get fatter on less food. Not very productive weight loss technique.
Another major problem is that as soon as you go of the diet and begin eating normally again, you will start gaining weight faster that you thought is possible. Your body is still accustomed to preserve fuel. Usually, people gain back more weight that they originally lost.
If you want to lose weight, don't starve yourself. Starvation diet is the worst thing you can do. It's cruel, unhealthy and it doesn't work. There are much better ways to lose weight.
