These days, it is becoming more and more fashionable for people of all ages and backgrounds to get tattoos. Tattoos, which used to be moderately proscribed, are now generally a socially acceptable for of body art. Though definite designs might modify on occasion, there are still quite a lot of popular subjects that remain popular when it comes to getting a tattoo.

1) Tribal/Maori tattoos: Tribal tattoo designs can be a variety of designs, from long-established indigenous designs that date back hundreds of years to newer, more contemporary graphic designs. Maori patterns originate from Polynesia and are especially geometric in form. For the most part Maori designs are based on a central spiral shape.

2) Spiritual symbols: Religious symbols are still one of the most popular tattoo designs. Crowns, crosses, and angels are all forms of religious images that are used to signify one's devotion to their faith. They might also be used in a memorial tattoo, paying tribute to a lost loved one. Angels can represent protection and guidance, too.

3) Stars: More often than not, a star's meaning is linked to the number of points it contains. Popular star designs are the pentagram, Star of David, and nautical star. Stars cal also be representative of the force of nature, as well as symbolize the lightness that can be found in darkness. The North Star can be used to symbolize one finding their way home.

4) Butterflies: Butterflies are another design that is traditionally used by women. While butterflies were used to symbolize the soul in Greek mythology, they are mostly chosen today for their beauty and femininity.

5) Dragons: Dragons represent the four elements, Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Coming from the Far East, dragons are neither good nor bad and illustrate the power of the earth itself. Dragon designs may also be worn to demonstrate domination.

6) Words: Having phrases or single words is another popular tattoo design. Words are usually meant to memorialize a person, such as a parent or a child, but meaningful phrases are also used.

7) Flora: Flowers are indisputably one of the most favored tattoo designs, particularly for the female population. Depending on the look that you are going for, there are a lot of various flower designs available. Some popular flowers are daisies, roses, lilies, and violets. Flowers can also be used in concurrence with other designs as well, especially when it comes to religious symbols.

8) Birds: Like flowers, there are a variety of birds that are used in tattoos and each one has a different meaning. A phoenix can represent starting over or rising from the ashes while an eagle might stand for courage and freedom and even be used in a patriotic montage. Wings themselves might be worn to signify independence.

9) Fantasy designs: Unicorns, faeries, gnomes, and mermaids are all popular images found in the fantasy realm. One might wear a fantasy-inspired tattoo if they have an interest in the make-believe world. They can also be used for alternative religions.

10) Hearts: Showing off your love of love is still one of the most popular designs out there. Hearts can be used to show your feelings towards a loved one, name included within the design, or can they can simply be stand alone designs by themselves.

Regardless of the fact that designs go in and out of fashion, some subjects never change in popularity. When most people get tattoos, they try to find something that showcases their individuality and says something about their personality. Then again, this isn't always the case because sometimes you just want something that looks cool.
