BPA Free Baby Bottles And Other Consumer Products Are On The Increase
Whilst no comprehensive links regards the amount of damaging bisphenol A (BPA) have yet been isolated, concerns continue to grow. Indeed, such is the level of worry, leading companies are beginning to phase out bottles with the chemical and offer BPA free baby bottles increasingly.
The issue with BPA, concerns the effects it may have on the growth of the body and impediments it could cause to its function. Researchers into the compound suggest that its mimicry of estrogen could cause possible damage to reproductive, immune and neurological systems. Tests on animals have proved this to be very much evident.
Some of the more demonstrative groups claim BPA could cause breast and testicular cancer. Though more campaigners against the chemical suggest this is nothing more than troublesome and inaccurate.
The argument becomes a little obscure, and somewhat clouded, as the levels of BPA in babies bottles are, in essence, completely harmless to the human body. However, constant heating and reheating of the products, (particularly via a microwave), have led some to suggest that it will inevitably release dangerous levels into the bottles contents over time.
With so much conjuncture and debate, parents are unsurprisingly desperate to seek BPA free baby bottles. It is because of this, that sales of glass products have increased exponentially over recent years. However, whilst glass is a product relied on for decades, its ability to break very easily is as big a concern.
As public concern grows, companies are finally noticing a dip in their profits and are reacting.
Investment has soared in the development, and subsequent availability, of such alternatives as polypropylene amongst others, which provides similar traits as BPA laced products. What made BPA so popular was its excellent properties to not only provide crystal clear containers, but also provide excellent durability and proven shatter resistance; all more than valuable with little hands.
However, these BPA free baby bottles are not an absolute guarantee. BPA is one of the most widely produced chemicals worldwide. Quite apart from babies' bottles, it is to be found in many consumer products such as take out containers and canned food liners. However, more worrying for parents is that BPA is also widely used on many retainers, teethers and pacifiers - though at far lower levels.
Another concern for parents is that even if all products used for their baby are entirely BPA free, the compound can be passed through breast milk.
Such is BPAs popularity, rarely a day goes by when each one of us do not come into contact with it. To put this into perspective; around 95 percent of US citizens are known to have the chemical present in their urine.
BPA free baby bottles are just the start of course. As more groups, the public, and Federal government weigh into the issue, it is inevitable that BPA will become less and less frequent in production. This is certainly true in the western world, however, with so many items being produced in China, and with their "relaxed" approach to health and safety concerns, it could still be some time before its presence is eradicated completely.
