Home Acne Treatment

So, you think your acne is not bad enough to see a dermatologist about? Well, in that case you can treat it yourself at home. There are many ways of treating acne at home, and while none are considered to be the best for every person, there are several that rise above the rest. In the following paragraphs you will learn how to treat your acne at home in easy to follow steps.

The most important aspect of any home treatment of acne is prevention; because it is much easier to prevent it from happening then it is to deal with a full blown outbreak. The first step in preventing acne is to keep your hands away from your face. This means that you should refrain from popping, picking or mashing your zits.

Step one is really something that everyone should already be doing every day, but unfortunately not everyone does, it is washing your face. Washing your face does a few things to prevent acne; first, it removes the excess oil from your skins pores where acne causing bacteria actually live. You should wash your face two to three times per day, but you should not use regular soap. Instead use a facial cleanser that is specially formulated for acne prevention.

The next step is really something that you should not do instead of an additional step, but it is just as important. Step two is; do not exfoliate. This goes against what you may have already been told, but it very important if you hope to prevent further outbreaks. Because exfoliation can cause irritation of your delicate facial skin, it opens your skin up to bacterial infection, which is the root cause of acne.

You can also use over-the-counter acne treatments to help remove excess oil and dead skin cells from your pores. The best product for this is benzoyl peroxide, which is sold in thousands of over-the-counter acne treatments. This should be used according to the instructions because over use can lead to rash or skin irritation.

Your diet is another important part of the equation when it comes to acne prevention. The statement, "you are what you eat" is especially true when it comes to acne. You should avoid foods that contain a lot of oil because they will cause your body to produce high levels of oil.

My last tip is to use rubbing alcohol to clean your face. I use this, and it has worked wonders for me. To use it, just pore the alcohol onto a paper towel and rub it onto your face two to three times each day. This can help to kill acne causing bacteria and clean pores.
