Everyone has the best of intentions when it comes to eating right. The problem is that most people don't really know the proper way to keep a healthy diet menu balanced. It is a common misconception that if you only eat low calorie or low fat foods then you will lose weight. This is far from true sometimes low calorie food is high in fat, and low fat foods are often high in sugars and calories.

A healthy diet consists of lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and some lean proteins. Keeping the amount of these things balanced is the best way to ensure that you are truly eating correctly.

Good food choices

It is really not difficult at all to maintain a healthy diet. All you will have to do is take the usual bad foods that you have been eating and substitute them with healthy foods. You will be surprised on the results of these simple changes.

Fiber rich grains: Load up on foods that are high in fiber such as whole grain breads and pasta. These foods are great for keeping full while supplying you with lots of nutrients.

Eat some fruit: Fruits have always been known to be good for you, but did you know that they can also help you stay hydrated? Fruits are very high in water making them a good choice for anyone. Melons, berries, and apples are all excellent sources of nutrition.

Vegetables: All vegetables are great for you. Leafy green ones added to your healthy diet menu are especially helpful.

Proteins: Eating protein is great, but be careful that you limit the amounts of fat and red meat in your diet. An excellent way of getting protein without the fat is to eat beans.

Dairy: Eating a calcium rich diet is a great way of keeping your bones healthy. Foods like yogurt and cheese are a great addition to a healthy diet menu.

Things that should be limited

It is no surprise that with good foods there must also be bad ones. Many of the bad foods can be eaten in moderation, but it is best to avoid them on your healthy diet menu.

Too much sugar: It is alright to have something sweet now and then, but don't overindulge when it comes to foods high in sugar. There are many desserts to have that are lower in sugar, and still able to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Carbohydrates are not always good: It is true that carbohydrates have the ability to give you lots of energy and that is great, if you are an athlete. The fact is that carbs will turn into fat if you do not burn them off after eating them.

Fatty foods: You should always avoid fatty foods. They have little to none health benefits and they can clog your arteries.

Stay away from salt: High sodium foods can cause you to have high blood pressure and other disorders. Sodium needs to be eaten moderately. You can substitute salt with other herbs and spices that add flavor without the sodium.

It is important to mention that the key to preparing a healthy diet menu is balance. When you prepare a meal make sure that you have a variety of colors on your plate. That signifies that your meal is more balanced. Also, use fruits and vegetables as your primary foods during meals keeping potatoes and meats to a minimum.

It is not hard to prepare a healthy diet for your entire family. With good choices and a little effort you all will feel healthier and full of energy.
