Good nutritious food was earlier touted to be something in line with eating fresh food and avoiding potato chips? Today we say stay away from free radicals within the body. Antioxidants are believed to be nice for us, but the point arises how we support one while disbanding the other?

Drinks like tea & coffee contain some quantities of antioxidants, but fresh fruits contain antioxidants in large numbers. U.S.D.A. highly recommends fruits in our diet; surprisingly added virgin olive oil too has loads of antioxidant. Olive oil has immense health benefits. It is a rare combination where an ingredient will increase the gourmet meal's taste as well as be the perfect health choice.
A lean diet of saturated fats coupled with balanced quantity of fatty acids is beneficial for one's own health. Fatty acids needed by our body could be derived from virgin olive oil. Olive oil's health benefits help decrease of LDL cholesterol and at the same time assists in rising HDL cholesterol.
Case Study
The Barcelona University conducted a study wherein sixteen people were asked to stay away from select food items, which included phenols (an antioxidant created to fight free radicals). After following the regimen for 4 days those very sixteen people were administrated with pure virgin olive oil so as to know whether or not it could on stand-alone basis raise phenol level within the body.
Olive oil 50ml quantity was given to that group and they stay away from food such as nuts, butter, margarine & eggs. Post day 1 the ingestion of olive oil was reduced by half. A week later, samples of blood showed increased levels of phenols & antioxidants vitamin E. Monounsaturated fatty acids and Oleic acid were found to be at higher levels, the 2 acids indicated lesser LDL oxidation.
According to few researchers olive oil benefits are still untapped, and researchers believe that consuming olive oil could well be the new age good health mantra. Over and above the antioxidant properties, virgin olive oil also assists in lowering blood pressure, subsiding heart disease risks and helps fight colon cancer more effectively.
It is time that we used olive oil more frequently to discover its true benefits.
