Memory Supplements: An Alternative Option To Enhance Your Memory As You Age
Memory is our ability to recall ideas, sensations, and feelings. There are generally different classifications of it, namely, sensory (a very brief recollection of what has just been seen or heard), short term (recalling recent events such as what you had for breakfast this morning) and long term (reminiscence of events that happened week, months, or years ago such as your first kiss or your wedding day). Sensory and short-term memories have the potential to become long-term ones based on their intensity and repetition.
Our long-term thoughts are often more cherished the more we age, as we look back on the most important moments in our lives. However, a short-term thought or idea is important in helping us remember things like where we left our glasses or what we stopped at the grocery store to pick-up. However, many people notice that they are no longer able to remember things that were once so clear.
This may lead to trouble remembering simple things like the name of an old friend or the date of a special occasion. Many individuals assume such a loss as a normal part of aging; in fact, more than two-thirds of Americans report some form of decline in thinking with age.
What most of us do not know is that there are steps one can take, such as taking memory supplements, in order to avoid or reverse this problem. The earlier these preventative measures are taken, the better the chances of delaying the downward spiraling of such an important brain function.
Fortunately, there are things we can do to preserve this function. Challenging our brains or doing "mental exercises" is one thing we can do to delay the loss. For example, using brain teasers or thinking games such as crossword puzzles and Sudoku, or learning new skills such as a language or playing an instrument, enhances our brain activity.
A second way we can be sure to enhance our ability to remember as we age is to take memory supplements. Studies have shown that the enhancement products are very effective in both preventing and treating memory loss. One of the most popular enhancement product that is all natural is ginkgo biloba. Studies have shown that this herb improves blood flow to the brain, which in turn enhances the functioning of your mind.
Several other natural herbs have also been shown to do both, treat and reverse the decline of brainpower. Depending on what your health care professional recommends, these may be able to be used instead of ginkgo biloba or as an additive supplement.
Rosmarinus officinalis, or common name Rosemary, has been found to increase energy and reduce depression, which scientists believe may contribute to stop the effects of aging on your mind. Salvia officinalis is rich in antioxidants and commonly used in the treatment of Alzheimer's. Finally both green tea and ginseng are all natural memory supplements that are recognized for their antioxidant properties and mind boosting effects.
Considering the recent scientific development showing the simple steps individuals can take to ward off the diminishing ability to remember, such as mental exercises and memory supplements, there is no longer any reason to accept the loss of recalling as a "typical" symptom of aging.
