Toronto Blue Jays Tickets - Blue Jays Defeat White Sox 2-1
Jose Bautista hammered the go-ahead run with an eight-inning single, rookie Robert Ray gave up only three hits in a career-high eight innings, as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Chicago White Sox 2-1 last week. Ray (1-1) also gave up one unearned run during the game. The pitcher walked one and retired three batters before he left the game. Scott Downs finished the game, earning his fourth save. Ray secured his first major league victory and told the press it was an awesome feeling to get his first strike out of the game. Chicago's Josh Fields said Ray's pitches kept him off balance. The slugger was looking for a pitch he could hit, but Ray would just drop another one in for a strike. Get Toronto Blue Jays tickets and see Bautista hammer a ball out of the park.
The Chicago White Sox knew they would have to score more than one run if they wanted to win against the AL East-leading Blue Jays. In the eighth inning, Chicago reliever Scott Linebrink (1-2) was at the mound. Vernon Wells stood at the plate and hit a one-out single, stole second base and turned up the jets to come around on Adam Lind's double into right field. The game was tied one-all. Lind was on third base when Bautista came to the plate. Bautista drove one to left field and Lind scored to give the Blue Jays the 2-1 lead. White Sox bench Coach Joey Cora, who was substituting for Ozzie Guillen told the press that his club went with their best pitchers, but were unable to pull a victory with a 1-0 lead. Gullien will be back with the team soon as he was attending his son's college graduation.
The White Sox have been struggling, losing three straight, and 10 of their last 13 games. Chicago's only score of the game came when Scott Podsednik walked, eventually headed to second base on a grounder and stole third. He scored after catcher Raul Chavez's threw the ball off Podsednik's legs and into foul territory. The error cost the Blue Jays a score. The Loss was Chicago's eighth straight in Toronto and the 1-0 lead was their first here in 49 innings. The last time the White Sox lead a game in Toronto was June 3, 2007. Toronto has been on a roll, scoring a major league-high 221 runs, but did not have an answer to Bartolo Colon's pitching early in the game.
Bautista was thrown out in the second inning after he tried to stretch into a double and Marco Scutaro found no luck as he was also tagged out trying to slide into third. Blue Jays third base coach, Nick Leyva, instructed Chavez to stay put at third rather than send him home from first after Scutaro's two-out double in the fifth inning. Colon kept Toronto from scoring by getting Aaron Hill to fly out. The starting pitcher gave up five hits in five shutout innings before leaving the mound due to an upset stomach. The White Sox changed their lineup, moving Podsednik up to bat first while dropping Carlos Quentin from third to sixth.
