Genioplasty: To Go For A Non-Surgical Or Surgical Procedure?

By Abigail Aaronson

Many people are considering changing the look of their chin to redefine their face. If you are unsatisfied with your look, you may want to get genioplasty.

Many people choose to change their jawline so that it does not protrude out as much. Others want a larger one that fits in better with the rest of the features. Regardless of the reasoning, many people choose to get genioplasty to change the shape of the chin. There are a few non surgical methods too that you can use to regain a new look.

Many people are scared of surgery because of the invasiveness, the long recovery period, as well as the cost. The non surgical methods are usually around one thousand dollars and can work very well. Many doctors use an injectable to change the shape of the chin. The surgeon numbs the area and then injects a substance at certain areas to create a different shaped jaw.

You can usually return to work after the procedure and you may feel some slight swelling and redness. This can be great if you are looking for some non permanent results or if you want to see what a new chin will look like before undergoing a surgery. Usually the results will fade after about two years.

Others choose to actually get genioplasty to reshape the jaw so that you can have a more natural appearing face. The surgery has been known to create balance on the face. If you want to have more permanent results, then your first step should be to go to the doctor for a consultation period. If you do that, then the doctor will tell you what you need to do to create harmony in your face.

Many times, you may need to get some orthodontic work around the face to change the shape of the jaw. Other times, the doctor will put in implants into the face to make the chin fuller. The doctor will decide the best procedure for you.

During genioplasty, you will be under a local or general anesthesia to numb the pain. After the procedure, you should feel sore and may not be able to go back to work for a while. There should be minimal risks of complications as long as you follow the advice of the surgeon before and after the procedure.

If you want to change the look of your chin, then chin implant surgery may be the way to go. Make sure you understand all the methods available so that you get the desired results.
