Is Chocolate an Aphrodisiac?

Aug 17, 2007
Chocolate is an item everyone loves to consume. It lifts spirits, assists people in stress and chocolate is the number one candy sold on Valentine's Day. Is chocolate an aphrodisiac or is that just a myth from ancient past? There have been extensive studies relating to this question for several years. Individuals that consume this product recall feeling more stimulated and at ease.

Some individuals feel that this is all in a person's head, however, there may be facts to prove otherwise. This kind of candy is addicting. It relieves certain pains and discomforts a person may face.

Is it because from birth people are given chocolate for aches, pains, falls and emotional distress? This kind of candy is called the cure-all of foods. Everyone enjoys eating and drinking this product. Do individuals really believe that chocolate is an aphrodisiac? Most people do believe this as a fact.

Experts have done quite a few studies to figure out whether this candy is a cure-all and feel-good solution to any ailments. The ancient Aztecs believed famously that a piece of chocolate was an aphrodisiac. As soon as this candy was brought into the European nations, this idea came with it.

Many renowned people in history have used chocolate as an acceleration for the process of getting in the mood for love and togetherness. Throughout history people in authority have either banned this product or they have used it for its chemical properties to alter one's state of mind. Various individuals that have done studies on chocolate have differed in their conclusions. There are on-going arguments that yes it is an aphrodisiac and no, it is all in a person's head and mental state.

There are certain chemicals that are found in a chocolate substance that is released into the brain and other parts of the body. These chemicals cause most individuals to feel a shockwave of love and stimulation. There are some individuals that call chocolate a drug. This is technically a true statement. It has been proven without a doubt that this kind of candy does release certain chemicals into the brain.

The question is whether the chemicals are a mind altering substance or if they are a placebo. The mind and brain are powerful objects. They sometimes plays tricks on certain individuals. This may be the reason why people feel differently when they consume chocolate. The chemicals that are produced in the body from chocolate are Phenylethylamine, Dopamine, Serotonin and Theobromine. Phenylethylamine is a natural element that is found in the body's system when an individual has emotional feelings of love and happiness. The other types of substances are mood altering affects, or the cure-all chemicals.

Different people show various signs when they eat or drink this product. Everyone has a difference of opinion on chocolate being an aphrodisiac. Also, every single person is different when it comes to drugs and the effect chemicals have on their brain and body. The only way to be absolutely sure if chocolate is a body and emotional stimulator is by each person testing it individually (that shouldn't be hard to talk people into!)
