The amazing sound that comes from an electric guitar is amazing. It is amazing to imagine where music would have ended up if it hadn't been for the invention of the electric guitar; a terrible idea. A band that doesn't have an electric guitar is like a kid without its mama.
Electric guitars come in various contours, sizes, colors, and designs. Some think that it does not make a difference what electric guitar you get because they all are electric guitars. This is is not the case; brand, size, pickups, and neck matter in the sound that is made. Therefore, certain brands of electric guitars have been the choice for decades because of the precision that is put into making them. Although, the largest contributing factor to the sound produced is the pickups.
Whether creating a band, jamming solo, or adding some weapons to your band's arsenal, you should learn the different types of pickups for electric guitars before you go out and purchase one. Many music stores will be ok with you to try them and can be very helpful in including information and assisting one in buying the most suitable electric guitar. Make sure to find information on the differences in pickups. Thekinds of pickups for electric guitars are:
* Single Coil Pickups - This style has a single coil. This kinds of pickup remains the oldest of electric guitar types. When strumming on single coil pickup, the sound is compromised by other frequencies in the air which result in an unwanted hum. These types of pickups are usually not seen today but still the pickup for some very well known musicians because of the unique sound they make.
* Humbucker Pickups - This pickup consists of two coils wherein the unwanted hum of the single coil pickup is killed. Basically, the coil holds two signals: one that the music is producing and one that cancels out the hum. The actual piece in this arrangement is called a Humbucker which was patented in 1954. The humbucker is the process of two coils.
* Double Coil Pickups - This type in pickups, like in the name, have two coils. But, for some reason, musicians do like the hum sound once in a while so the double coil pickup electric guitars are usually made with a switch that can turn off the second coil.
There are of other contributors that go into the sound an electric guitar makes. But, pickups are the sound makers. Other things for example: neck length, shape, material, frets, and tuners also play a part but not like the pickups. For years, rock stars have been toiling over creating the perfect guitar to make the best sound. Rock and roll has changed in some ways but in different ways it has remained indifferent.
