How To Stop Drinking Alcohol In Just 21 Days
Ongoing alcohol use can create many problems in your life, not only with your family and friends, but also at the workplace and it is important to recognize the symptoms of alcoholism and understand the difference between than and simply being a heavy drinker.
Alcohol addiction has taken over many lives and infused the drinker with the belief that only through drinking can you survive your day. Giving in to this way of thinking is a path to disaster as you will always be reliant on the bottle for your sense of self.
Once this point is reached in an alcoholics life, it always appears to signal alarm bells from within, which is probably the last chance there is to actually quit drinking alcohol, so this is where I want to help in giving advice for those first few days before and after quitting drinking.
Your decision to quit drinking will affect not only you but your loved ones as well and it is these people that I want you to keep in the forefront of your mind during this process. Decide on a date to quit, one that is reasonable, and as each day gets closer you need to reduce the amount you are drinking so that on your chosen date you will be ready to give it up.
If it is feasible you should try to take the week off work during that first week that you quit, even have your doctor give you a slip stating you missed work for medical reasons. Getting out of bed will be difficult the first few days and I want you to stay in bed if you want to while your body detoxifys.
Don't hesitate to rely on those people who want to see you succeed as well as support groups. Beware of feeling over confident during your first few days; all too often people feel that a celebratory drink would be okay which leads them right back to the bottle.
Every day is crucial during the first 3 weeks and you will meet a different challenge every day, so make sure that you take the necessary time to get back to work, and if you continue to feel the same anxieties in life then you may need to take difficult decisions that will relieve you of any stress or pressure. Remember only you are your family are important, so even if it means reducing your standard of living drastically it is your life and future we are talking about.
