Home to the Tallest Skyscrapers

The Capital City of Warsaw, is Poland and it is its largest city. One of the tallest cities in Europe is has nine of the tallest skyscrapers in Poland. The centrally located tallest structure, the Palace of Culture and Science, is the fourth tallest building in the European Union.

Warsaw is an extraordinary city. Its history and climate impress visitors, while its uniqueness interests them. In Warsaw, influences of Western and Eastern Europe culture cross.

The historic buildings, churches, palaces, and architectural complexes, destroyed during the War, have been reconstructed with great care. UNESCO appreciated Warsaw Monuments and its relics, and honoured the City by putting the Historic Centre of Warsaw on the World Heritage List.

Poles are famous for their superb beers and vodkas. Clubs are springing up all over the place, and the night life tends to be spread out around the city, with plenty of nice venues opening up on the outskirts of the city. The Praga district is for serious party goers, whilst in the older parts of Warsaw, there are more traditional pubs and cafes.

There are still plenty of seedy dives, where foreigners are less than welcome and drunken violence can be a problem for visitors. New style night club and bars seem to be opening every week. There are no licensing hours and many bars and clubs stay open until the last guest leaves.

The main shopping streets are the restored ulica Marszalkowska, ulica Chmielna, elegant Nowy Swiat, and aleja Jerozolimskie and out of town malls have become more popular, with large central stores. As Polands capital, Warsaw has attracted the big international names in shopping, keen to take part in the countrys economic resurgence. As a business hub. Warsaw is also an oasis for travellers looking for smart clothes at reasonable prices. Still, the city continues to retain its old world charm, and there are plenty of smaller stores tucked on the back streets.

Europes largest flea market is in the Praga district next to the Poniatowskiego Bridge. The variety of goods on offer is enormous, ranging from air guns and fur coats to illegal CDs, leather goods and trinkets from the former Soviet Union. I. There are also delicious refreshments on sale in little covered booths.. The market opens at approximately 0600 daily for the best buys, it is advisable for bargain hunters to arrive early and begins to wind down at noon.
