I Need a Bad Breath Treatment - It Is Destroying My Social Life!

Aug 17, 2007
Chronic bad breath can be devastating to your social life. If you have halitosis all the time, it could discourage others from getting close. It can certainly have an impact on the way people deal with you and their overall opinion of you. If you're aware of the problem, and you haven't found an effective bad breath treatment, it can really harm your self-esteem and self-confidence. Since chronic halitosis can have such a huge impact, wouldn't you like to find out how to get rid of bad breath the easy way?

First, let's make clear that we're talking about chronic halitosis. This is bad breath that stays around all the time. If you have transient or occasional halitosis, it can usually traced it back to garlic, onion or some other pungent food you ate recently. Transient bad breath will usually subside on its own. Until it does, you can lessen the effects with mouthwash or gum. But chronic halitosis can't be eliminated this way. With chronic bad breath, the problem returns as soon as the treatment stops.

The best chronic halitosis treatment is good oral hygiene. Everyone knows they should brush their teeth and floss. Of course, like everything else, the real trick is doing it. Why is good oral hygiene so important if you want to get rid of bad breath the easy way? Chronic halitosis is caused by the growth of bacteria and by the sulfur that they release during their life cycle. Your mouth is already an attractive place for bacteria to grow, seeing as how it's moist, dark and warm. If you leave little bits of leftover food in your mouth, stuck between your teeth for the bacteria that chew on, then the amount of bacteria in your mouth could literally explode. Plus, if you allow plaque buildup between your teeth, that provides even more surfaces where bacteria can hide.

It's also important to keep your tongue clean. Out of all the places inside your mouth, your tongue is the most attractive surface for bacteria. Many people who practice good oral hygiene forget that they need to clean their tongue too. Cleaning your tongue used to be more difficult, but the toothbrush manufacturers are now providing integrated tongue cleaners. You can use them, or you can just brush the surface of your tongue with your toothbrush. But if you want to get rid of bad breath easy way, keep your tongue clean somehow.

If you're looking for a natural halitosis treatment, there are several home remedies that can help to reduce bacteria in your mouth. You can wash your tongue with baking soda dissolved in water. Another option is to rinse your mouth with lemon juice and water.

Yogurt is a great natural bad breath treatment. The live cultures that are contained in yogurt help restore proper balance in your mouth and reduce the levels of bad bacteria. But one serving won't do it. You need to eat yogurt for at least six weeks. Maybe after six weeks, it will be a habit.

To get rid of halitosis the easy way, you should remember that saliva is your secret weapon. Having enough saliva in your mouth helps to wash away food particles and bacteria. Not only that, but saliva provides needed antiseptic and enzymes that help fight the growth of bacteria. Chewing gum promotes the production of saliva. It's also important to make sure you drink enough water to stay hydrated. You may find this hard to believe, but drinking alcohol can actually contribute to a dry mouth. If chronic bad breath is a problem, then cutting down on your alcohol intake should be part of your halitosis treatment.

If these basic steps for bad breath treatment don't work, you should see your dentist. There could be other underlying causes besides oral hygiene habits. Sometimes even sinus infections and respiratory diseases can cause halitosis. Explain the situation to your dentist. He'll do an exam, make sure you're doing everything you can do, and may prescribe an antibacterial rinse to help out.

There's no reason why bad breath should destroy your social life. Even chronic halitosis treatment is easy to accomplish and usually successful. Don't resign yourself to being alone. Take charge, learn all you can and get rid of bad breath the easy way.
