Dogs that have just been diagnosed with having worms can cause a lot of worry for dog owners. Although this is a very normal thing to feel, these worms are able to kill your dog should they be left untreated, and you should therefore not take them lightly. This article will give you more information on worms and the medication that can be used.

What will follow is an explanation of the three most common worm invasions. By knowing more about this you will be able to fight them more effective and boost the chances of your beloved dog surviving this.

Your dog can be terrorized by 5 types of worms, and these are roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms and heartworms. These worms are all parasites, which mean that they are feeding of your dog, and will reproduce in their bodies. In addition to this these worms can also be carried over to humans. Should your dog have worms, or if you expect them to have, make sure that you are washing your hands often to reduce the chances of infection.

The signs of your dog having worms are fairly alike in every case of all 5 different types of invasions. These symptoms might include loss of appetite, a pot-belly appearance, a cough, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting and loss of weight.
The three most common infections in dog by worms will follow below.

The first one is roundworms. They are the most common worm that is found in dogs. Their eggs exist in the feces of dogs, and also in decaying meat from rodent and in the earth. They can be easily picked up by your dog if your dog licks any of the above mentioned. As soon as the eggs produce, these worms can reach the length of 7 inches in the stomach of your dog. These worms are very threatening in the sense that they can multiply over and over again, and eventually cause an obstruction in the digestive system of your dog.

Hookworms are very disgusting, as they have teeth and also live in the intestines of your dog. A good indicating that your dog has these is if you notice blood in their feces.

Heartworms are contracted through mosquitoes, especially during the hot summer months. These mosquitoes suck blood from a dog that is infected, and then passes it on to a different dog. These worms are visibly small, and will go to the heart of your dog and feed of their muscle tissue.

All three of these worms can be treated with medicine, and they will flush them from their systems before it is too late. But it is vital that you catch these worms early enough, as they can be fatal to your dog.
