Stun Weapons The Future Of Self Defense

By William Gold
Aug 6, 2009
Self-defense is an issue in this country, and not only in urban areas, either. Many think of inner-city environments as being inherently dangerous, but at least in those places there is almost sure to be police who can be called upon. Not so out in the boondocks, in the middle of nowhere! This is why gun-rights advocates are typically from suburbia or the countryside, because they know the local three-man sheriff's department probably can't be counted on to respond quickly enough in force when a real emergency arises. Indeed, even in a big and safe, if recently reported trends are to be believed city like New York one can wind up in a life-threatening situation without so much as a prayer, despite the constant car patrols of the famed NYPD.

Yet many municipalities suffer from an anti-gun bias that, in effect if not in intent, sanctions both criminals and law-abiding citizens alike. The trend is towards more gun-ownership restrictions, not less; more prohibitions against legally owning firearms, not less. So what is a concerned citizen to do when trying to secure life and property?

Stun guns or a stun baton is one of the ways to protect yourself and your loved ones without worrying about liberal biases against self-defense. They are legal in most municipalities of the United States, and do not occasion the kinds of hassles associated with firearms usage. A stun baton or stun guns, for that matter are much safer to use, and do not cause any lasting harm or damage, all other factors being equal.

Though instruction in their use would be helpful, it is absolutely not necessary. They are simply electrically-charged devices which temporarily disable would-be assailants while you run to safety. Depending on the voltage involved, a stun baton or any variety of stun guns can harmlessly disable a criminal for up to half an hour! That is more than enough time to call the police for help. Stun guns and such devices are becoming more and more popular due to their effectiveness. They are also an affordable means of self defense.

The difference between a stun baton and stun guns in general is that a stun baton looks like a stick, a policeman's billy-club or truncheon. That's really all there is between them. A stun baton might be more useful for those who have knowledge of martial arts and stick-fighting techniques, allowing for employment as simple non-electric weapons, whereas stun guns cannot really be wielded as weapons. But stun guns are almost always much more concealable than any stun baton, so it really boils down to a matter of utility versus the ability to conceal it.
