How to Wash Your Dog To Maintain a Healthy Dog
By bathing your dog you will help to keep them healthy and clean. A good bath will lessen the quantity of flea repellents you need to use, and it will also put a stop to hotspots, that are a potentially severe problem for your beloved dog. This short article will give you some instructions on how to wash your dog.
If you bath your dog too often, it can cause your dog to have a dry skin and coat. It is therefore recommended that you only bath your dog once during the month to prevent this from happening. Before you bath your dog you should brush them properly. When brushing them, make sure that you get rid of all matts and tangles that might be in the coat. If your dog is bathed with this, it will only become worse. If you are unable to remove these matts and tangles with a brush or comb, you can use a special detangling conditioner.
Make sure that you have all the things that you need for the bath on hand. These will include a brush or comb, the collar and leash of your dog, dog shampoo and conditioner and a number of towels. If you bath your dog in the bathtub, you should make use of a safety mat. A hand held spout will help you to apply the water and also to rinse your dog down. Make sure that you have a special dog shampoo, because the pH level of the skin of a dog is different to that of humans. Human shampoos will remove the natural oils on the skin of a dog. Always use lukewarm water when bathing your dog, and not hot water.
Also do not let any of the water or shampoo get into the eyes and ears of your dog. Also rinse of all the shampoo and conditioner from the coat of your dog. Your dog will start to itch if you leave this on their skin. After bathing your dog you can remove the plug so that the water can drain out. Then dry your dog by putting a towel over their head. And use another towel to dry their back and legs. Then softly rub or pat them dry with these towels. If your dog has a coat with longer hair, do not rub it too vigorously as this can form some matts.
You can then put the blow dryer on a low setting and give your dog some warm air. But this should only be done if your dog is not afraid of the noise. Some dogs do not like a hairdryer at all.
