Watches: Are They About Telling Time Or A Fashion Statement?

Aug 17, 2007
Watches are used by people of all ages and backgrounds to make sure they get to where they are going on time. Well, most people anyway! I have a couple of friends who happen to be late even when they have a watch. People of all ages use watches, even smaller children.

We live in a very fast paced society, and it is common for each of us to need to keep track of the time. Most of us have jobs, children to pick up, dinner to make, errands, to run, etc. Having a watch can really help with keeping a person on schedule.

Watches can be digital so it is easier for younger people to read the time. Some watches features the hour and minute only while others feature a second hand as well. Watches have really evolved with the times. There are watches that do much more than tell time. Some of them have a light on them so you can see your keyhole in the dark. Others feature an alarm in the case of a medical emergency or if you feel you are in danger.

I have even see watches that are voice activated and tell the time. While these were initially designed for those with vision impairments, they quickly became a very popular item on the market.

A watch is a given symbol for time - not just for telling the time, but often to represent time. Many businesses show their employees who have reached a milestone anniversary or who are retiring their appreciation by presenting them with a company watch.

Giving a man or woman a watch as a give represents the time you have spent together as well as the time you will spend together in the future. You really can't go wrong with giving someone a watch as we all need to be able to keep track of the time. You may have a tough time though deciding on the style of watch to give them. The market offers you many great options.

Watches are much more than something we use to tell time though. They have become quite the popular fashion statement. It is not uncommon for men and women both to change their watch frequently. Some watches are wide and others are thin. You can find them made of leather, silver, gold, or plastic.

Of course most people don't have a full selection of very expensive watches, but they likely have a few that are reasonably priced. The fashion industry now offers a watch sets. They come with interchangeable bands and faces. This is a great way to have a watch that matches any outfit without having to purchase several of them. You can also create your own original designs.

Watches as jewelry have also become very popular. The oldest type of watch that doesn't go on your wrist is the pocket watch. They feature different designs of the face and a long chain. Pocket watches are commonly used by men. Another common watch that men like is the kind that clips to their belt loop. I know many guys who use this type of watch while playing sports.

Today's jewelry watches extend much further. I have seen beautiful rings that have the time displayed where a stone normally would be. There are beautiful necklaces that feature a watch on them. My favorite is the watch bracelet because I think it is weird to wear a watch and a bracelet on the same arm at the same time.

Watches have definitely changed over time. Consumers have so many choices that it can take some time to find the watch style and color that you want. Of course if you can't decide on just one you can purchase a couple. This way you can accessorize your outfits in no time, look stylish, and also know what time it is.

Watches are available in a wide spectrum of prices so if you really enjoy watches, you can buy several inexpensive ones to build up your collection quickly. It can be fun shopping for watches as well as comparing them with the ones your friends have selected.
