Freeing Up Office Space With Self Storage In Leicester

By Anna Stenning
Aug 10, 2009
Although it seems that every day the newspapers are filled with doom and gloom about the economic climate, it doesn't seem to have affected my company too much; we're still comfortably expanding and taking on new staff - it's almost as though my company has never really got with the times. Another example of us not being with the times is the vast amount of paper we have in our office.

We never achieved the goal of the paperless office that was supposed to have happened in the mid 90's, most of our clients prefer to send us letters rather than emails, we have records in folders rather than on hard drives and we make notes rather than small computer files. Unfortunately this means that we have a lot of space taken up by filing cabinets and coupled with our company's staff expansion, we started running out of room in the office and had to start looking into ways to free some up, and we decided on moving them out of the office and placing them in self storage in Leicester.

Things are going well for my company at the moment, but we're not at the point where we can really afford the new staff members and a bigger office to accommodate them and the ever expanding amount of paper, so the external archiving idea made the most sense and since the unit was just a five minute drive away, placing them in self storage in Leicester seemed to be the most sensible idea that we could come up with. After paying a quick visit to the search engine, we found a nearby provider and began planning the exodus of our old folders, filing cabinets and even a few unused computers and chairs.

The company that provided self storage in Leicester had a range of unit sizes on offer, from a locker to a room big enough for my employees to play a quick game of football in when we were viewing the unit; certainly more than large enough for our current needs, but I felt it was prudent to plan for the future, despite the fact that the future seems to come slowly to our company - I don't see us abandoning our hard-copy-heavy approach to business for a while, so we may well need to archive more files in time.

The storage unit we hired in the end cost much less than we were expecting, and it was certainly more affordable than moving to a larger office. Although the future is slow coming to our company, and we're in no hurry to abandon our paper-centric modus operandi, investing in self storage in nearby Leicester means that we can keep our office clutter-free while still keeping the method we've become accustomed to.
