Acne and Good Basic Hygiene

No matter what your mama told you, dirt does not cause acne. Unfortunately it is one of the acne myths that runs wild with acne sufferers. Yes, keeping your face cleanly washed can in fact help your acne breakouts to lessen in frequency and help them to be less severe, but the bottom line is that you simply do not breakout just because your face is dirty.

But of course, there is no cause for you to be lazy, routinely cleaning your face is very important for those of you who are prone to acne. Yes, you must clean your face routinely and with specific guidelines in mind in you intend to prevent acne outbreaks.

First of all, before you get ready to wash your face, stop and wash your hands. Shocking isn't it! Well, it should be a no brainer. You hands are getting ready to touch your face, so they should be clean first of all. Also, be suer that your nails are clean as well.

Next, before you get ready to wash your face, secure your hair away from your face. You might use a head band, bobby pins or even a shower cap. Keep your hair away from your face. Simple and yet it is a very important task to bombarding acne.

Ok, so you want to fight your acne. Wet your face with warm water and apply your selected facial cleanser to your face. Remember to follow the package's directions for that amount of product to use. So many of us use too much product. It really doesn't take that much product to do the job, so read the instructions.

It is also important to remember to use only your fingertips to wash your face and use those fingertips to gentle massage the cleanser into your face using circular motions. Avoid using a washcloth to wash your face since it can be too rough on your skin. Using a circular motion helps you cover all the surface area of your face. Be certain to pay special attention to the break out prone areas. The key here is to be gentle. Scrubbing harder does not make acne less likely. You are just scrubbing harder!

Now on to the refreshing part of face washing and that is rinsing. Gently rinse your face by thoroughly splashing it with warm water. No skimping, people! Splash your face with warm water until every single trace of cleanser is gone.

Next, use a clean soft towel and gently pat your face dry. Do not rub your face dry and for goodness sakes do not use a towel more than one time. Your face deserves a clean towel after each washing.

Fighting acne is not an easy thing to do but with a bit of close attention to detail you can get an upper hand on winning this war. Once you have followed all the steps to wash your face be certain that you allow your face to completely dry for at least 15 minutes before you apply any acne medication or facial moisturizers.

Acne is a health problem that drives many mad, not to mention the amount of money spent each year on acne treatments and cures. We just need to get back to the basics of facial care. Some times it is the simple things in life that can give us the best results.
