How To Maximize Your Ad Space Sales

Aug 17, 2007
Here are guidelines I've developed over the years to really improve your ad space sales. Not only will you attract (and retain) more customers, it will be more profitable for both of you. The Internet is all about standing out, here are things that will help you do just that.

Give your customers a discount when they spend over a certain dollar amount for ad space. You can also apply this tip to the amount of ads they buy. This way, you create a sense that you are offering a great value, and potentially get a recurring customer if you do it right. Offer your customers a free bonus for renewing their ad order. It could be an ebook, special report, online utility, etc. There are many products out there that you can buy with resell rights. These are a great tool to use. Make sure you are allowed to give them away, though.

Sell advertising space between your content. You just break an article in half and insert the banner or
classified ad between it. This typically generates much higher click-through rate than the typical ad at the top, side or bottom of the page, outside of the content the visitor is actually reading. Write content that's tailor made to mention and relate to the product your customers are advertising. This is more work but, you'll sell a lot of ads. If content is king, relevancy is queen.

Tell your customers when they buy an ad you'll also add it to your free ebook and message board for free. If you don't have that type of publication, you can use soemething else. The key here is to offer a free bonus, more visibility at no extra cost for your customer, and little to no extra cost to you. Offer to endorse the product your customers are advertising before or after their ad. In all honesty, you would have try out the product first. This is very powerful if your website is well established in its field, but you have to use it sparingly. Reserve this to perhaps your largest prospects and/or customers. Write a review for your customer's product to place under their ad. This is similar to a testimonial or endorsement but more in-depth. Again, don't spread yourself to thin, or write too many really good reviews, or you will lose credibility.

Offer a buy 2 ads and get 1 free deal. With the slow economy and advertising sales, most businesses are bound to be looking for a good ad deal. 2 for 1 is just an example, but special promos always have an edge. Limited time offers also help to close deals by creating a sense or urgency, especially if the offer is really good. Give your customers a ton of free bonuses when they buy ad space. It can be submission software, an ebook full of advertising or copywriting tips, etc. You can also offer free memberships to your newsletter, ezine or such. They work well, and it builds your list while giving you even more ad space.

Guarantee your customer's advertising results. If they don't like the traffic they receive, give them
a refund or another ad for free. It is very hard to keep customers in this industry, so make sure you always under promise, over deliver, this is the key to success in the Internet Marketing world.
