Interactive Web Meeting

By Jeremy Frankel

Web conferencing is an excellent alternative for business people who are looking to save time & money. Although nothing will ever replace live contact, online meetings allow users to interactively communicate through things such as the sharing of desktop screens, document sharing, video, and VoIP (sound). Generally, the more features a program has, the more it is going to cost you.

Web conferencing programs are also getting easier and easier to use, which is important considering that many member participants will be using the program for the first time at one point or another. Pretty much all web meeting solutions charge more if you want more users to join an online meeting. Fees for a typical web meeting (whose highlight is its desktop sharing capability) are around $50 for a months use.

Webex and Gotomeeting are the most popular web conferencing solutions, with Webex being the more popular of the two. In fact, some people refer to an online meeting as simply Webex. Although Gotomeeting is the cheaper of the two, you can get 10 more people for each meeting if you use Webex (25 rather than 15). Since you pay a flat rate monthly fee for each of these two services, you can use them whenever you want with no extra fees.

Before you or your business invests in a web conference meeting program, make sure that you actually are going to use it. Yes, they're cool and fun to use, but they are also a very real expense, especially if you use them for at least a year. Free alternatives include Skype conferencing and the free version of Yugma.

When shopping around for a web conferencing tool you also want to find out if it is easy enough to set up for users. Some web meeting programs can be used from any browser.

Ultimately, what program you get depends on your needs. If you are, for example, a graphic design firm and wish to communicate your work, you may choose Fuze Meeting because it allows you to communicate in HD format. If you want a lot of features to impress clients, go for Microsoft Office Live Meeting.
