Bangkok Airport Hotels and Kids' Stuff - for Stressed Parents on Stopovers!
It would be nice if you could pop your kids on a stationary wheel, like little mice, throughout a plane ride ... but unfortunately, not possible! What most parents make do with is letting them expend as much energy as possible before the flight, and utilizing all the available stopover breaks to the best of their ability.
If your stopover has landed in Bangkok, head over to the Samut Prakarn crocodile farm, where you won't have any trouble keeping your kids still despite eight hours worth of energy pent up inside their legs. Watching people put their heads inside crocodile's mouths, and participating in shows with tigers, bears and elephants, will keep most kids dumbstruck!
The Ancient City is another good option, a miniature replica of Thailand itself which is located outdoors, so noise is not such a problem. Wander round the 100 year old Klongsuan markets, and then make your way to a Bangkok airport hotel where not only the kids, but the important people too can relax!
If you have to get back to Suvarnabhumi airport for a flight, either the same day or early in the morning, Novotel Suvarnabhumi airport hotel is the only sensible choices for families with kids. It is only 10 minutes away from the airport terminal, and accessible via an underground walkway ... another great opportunity for tiring little legs before the next plane ride.
If you only have a short time before your next plane leaves, this Bangkok international airport hotel is the only one to offer hourly room rates for stopover travelers, so you don't need to book for an entire night to get some desperately needed R&R. The kids can go crazy in the pool, while the parents take turns to 'Restore and Revitalize' at Vous, Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel's signature spa.
If you're looking for something that will make little impact on an already stretched budget, Queen Garden Resort and Spa Bangkok airport hotel is not as well appointed as Novotel Suvarnabhumi, but much cheaper. Rooms are clean, safe and comfortable, and the in-house restaurant means that you can forego the 'pleasure' (!) of eating Bangkok airport facilities food, and get a taste of real Thai flavors while you are in the country.
There is internet service, and the airport transfers make your life much easier. However, none of the little extras that make Bangkok airport hotels much more bearable for kids like a pool, spa or play area.
Thong Ta Resort and Spa is another of the few facilities listed as Bangkok airport hotels, which are actually within a short distance of Suvarnabhumi. Only 5km from the airport, it is one of the few three star resorts which include a spa. While the kids run around the lush gardens, both Mom and Dad can enjoy an open-air massage or spa treatment. There is a pub, bar and restaurant on site here, but if you prefer to just lock yourself in your room, there is also 24 hour room service.
