Hair Waxing - What you Need to Know
There are many waxing methods available today, however, waxing hair removal still stands as the most popular. The reasons for this?
1. Its not expensive 2. Its convenient 3. It lasts for as long as two months
But aside from these benefits, there are also other questions that always bother the minds of those who are considering waxing. Consider these answers to your questions:
How is waxing hair removal done?
A thin amount of special wax is spread over the skin. After which, a cloth strip is pressed on the top of the applied area. With a quick movement, it is then ripped of the skin, removing the was along with hair and dead skin cells, which leave the skin smooth.
What's the difference between hot waxes and cold waxes?
With the high quality hot waxes, they melt a little above body temperature. This makes it comfortable for the one being waxed, and also makes it easier for the wax to be spread thinly over the skin. When the strip hardens, the hair is trapped and the strip is easily ripped off.
Cold wax is what most people prefer for waxing at home procedures. These come in pre-coated strps. You only directly press it on the skin. The coated strip sticks to the hair on the skin. All you need to do is pull it back in a quick manner. This is called by some as Persian wax.
What effect does waxing hair removal have on the skin?
There are other benefits to waxing aside from just getting rid of unwanted hair. Waxing also removes the dead skin cells. This results to smoother skin. The waxing process causes the skin to sting right after, and could require something to soothe it. Some people also have certain reaction to waxing like redness and bumps, which often disappears in a few hours.
Are there any health precautions to keep in mind with waxing hair removal?
There are a few special precautions for hair wax removal. Physicians discourage patients with diabetes, varicose veins, or poor blood circulations from undergoing this procedure because they are easily susceptible to infections.
Those who use Retin-A, Differin, Renova, or Accutane should also not have any hair waxing done on the face. These medications weakens the skin. Getting waxed may result to the tearing of the skin when the wax is removed.
Waxing is also not to be done on areas with moles, warts, pimples, rashes, or skin with any irritation. Sun burnt or chapped skin should not be waxed.
On what body areas wax be used?
Specially when not sure of the possible skin reaction, waxing should first be done on a small area of the skin. The exceptions to waxing are the eyelashes, male genitals and nipples, the insides of the ears and nose.
How long before hair reappears?
The maximum time for hair regrowth is up to two months maximum. Other than the longer regrowing time, another reason why this is prefered is that the regrown hair is usually finer, and less until it finally never regrows.
How can the pain or discomfort be minimized?
The simplest way to minimize the discomfort is to press on the skin hard, right after the waxing strip is pulled off. This should be done immediately once the strip is pulled off. Just press down hard with the cushion of the finger, or for larger areas, the palm.
Another way to minimize the possibility of swelling or skin irritation is to rub an ice cube over the area. There are also some soothing gels specifically designed to lessen risk of infection and at the same time, alleviate any stings felt after waxing.
