Tips And Reminders On Luggage Packing

Aug 17, 2007
In every journey or trip that a traveler embarks on, he will definitely need to be bringing with him a bag or a luggage. For a smooth pre-trip preparation create a list of the things and belongings that you will be packing in your luggage. Different destinations require different things to be brought with you and making a list will definitely speed up the packing process.

Determine the most appropriate luggage type. If you will be bringing breakable items along with you, opt for the hard-sided luggage instead of the soft side type.

Traveling with too many bags can be such a hassle and the more likely is the risk that you may lose track with one of your luggage. On the other hand, if you bring only a small bag and you force to jam pack everything in it you lose much if you happen to lose the entire bag. It is important to be able to strike a good balance. To avoid bringing far too many bags, color coordinate your clothes or mix and match outfits.

Your carry on luggage may fit and be able to go through the security checkpoint scanner but it possibly may not fit under the plane seat or on the plane's overhead compartments. It is best to check with your airline for the specific dimensions of the carry on luggage that you are allowed to carry. Some planes can accommodate larger bags while others cannot. Basically you are allowed one carry on luggage and one personal item such as a bag, briefcase or purse for example.

For parents who will be bringing with them toddlers or infants, some airlines would advise you to check in the strollers. Often you can take the carriers up to the gate after which they will be checked in. These will then be returned when you disembark from the aircraft.

Easy visibility of your luggage at the baggage carousel can be achieved by having distinguishing marks like distinctive tags, colorful ribbons, colored adhesive strips and colorful baggage straps. In this manner you don't get the wrong luggage and you also prevent other people from accidentally mistaking your luggage as their luggage. It is also important that you label both the inside and outside of your luggage.

Splitting your belongings on two or several bags for example will work to your advantage in case you lose one of the bags. Although in most cases your luggage will always be returned by the airline within 24 hours time, this will prove handy if you will be leaving on a cruise ship in less than the 24 hour waiting period. At least you still have something to wear.
