FA Premier League Rundown
Whilst all the big boys stood in awe of Manchester City's spending power, the teams likely (although not certain) to be battling at the other end of the table were busy about their own business.
While Manchester City leads the pack, teams like Wolves, Birmingham City, and Burnley have all made significant moves as well. Those in the Burnley circle believe they have a fighting chance. Wolves believe the same as well, especially with the addition of Michael Mancienne from Chelsea.
Blackburn Rovers are at a loss without their top goal scorer, and should regress from last year's campaign. Sunderland, with Steve Bruce as its manager now, should be improved in the face of its management upgrade and a few small acquisitions. As far as Wigan Athletic goes, a new manager in Bruce will be a good thing, but probably won't be enough to offset the loss of a few of the team's critical players.
Hull City had a nice season all in all last year, but regressed during the second half of it. Stephen Hunt should strengthen the team, and they may very well sign or acquire a high profile player over the next few weeks.
West Ham United is a respectable club, but an injury issue puts their season in jeopardy, especially since the team hasn't made any significant moves. Portsmouth has chaos written all of it too.
Stoke City faces challenges, but always puts in a great performance at home, and I believe they'll be one of the stronger teams in the league.
That leaves Fulham and Bolton Wanderers as the remaining participants in this year's sure to be action packed Premier League season. Fulham play attractive football and perhaps over achieved a little bit last time out, but solid mid table should be a comfortable goal for them. Bolton on the other hand look as though their struggle is becoming an annual affair after their brief flirtations with the top 8 in recent seasons. They have brought in some useful defenders and like Stoke and Fulham will be banking on their home form to see off any danger.
And that wraps up my preview of the new season! I can't wait for it to begin. Who do you believe will win?
