7 Ways To Get Smarter

If you want to get smarter, there are many practical steps you can take to boost your thinking skills.

Here are 7 ways to get smarter:

1. Get smart by following your bliss.

Smart people are usually smart about something, and this is usually what they spend much of their time studying.

Following your passion is following your natural instinct to learn. The more you learn, the better your comprehension and articulation of your knowledge.

Besides the pleasure of talking about your interests, you also befriend people who can relate to what you love.

2. Get smart by improving your diet.

While an article like this cannot go into detail about the best foods to enhance brain function, it is worth researching if you are interested in improving your mental alertness.

Numerous natural foods improve mood, enhance immunity, and boost neurotransmission in the brain. Your brain is a physical organ and responds to a nutritious diet. This diet should be a blend of foods that are generally healthy and foods that target brain chemistry.

In addition to natural foods, you can also find supplements in health food stores that exclusively isolate the nutrients that improve brain function.

It is important to note that dietary changes are a long term solution. It is not realistic to expect a surge of intelligence after only a few weeks of optimizing diet and nutrition for improved intelligence. Think in terms of months and years.

3. Get smart by finding smart friends.

Interacting with other people can increase or decrease your intelligence.

This is because they influence you by what they say and how they say it.

By hanging out with smart people you will be exposed to interesting, eye-opening information. You will also learn how to reason, articulate, and refine your ideas. Smart people stimulate you to be smarter yourself.

Conversely, unintelligent people talk about trivialities and even actively discourage you from engaging profound ideas. They feel highly uncomfortable around people who talk over their heads. In order to relate, you will have to dumb down.

4. Get smart by working out.

Forget the stereotype about the dumb jock.

Working out improves blood circulation, hormonal regulation, and brain endorphins.

By energizing your body, your mind, too, will be energized.

In addition to physical exercise, you can do brain exercises, too. These include specific computer programs that improve your reflexes and memory skills.

5. Get smart by getting specialized.

Even highly intelligent people can only be intelligent about a few things. The pace of knowledge is growing so fast that the idea of a Renaissance man is not realistic. Leonardo da Vinci would have to be a specialist if he lived in our fast paced world.
If you learn a lot about everything you will not be an expert in anything.

6. Get smart by boosting self-esteem.

Numerous studies show that children who have had their self esteem raised through positive suggestions from authority figures tend to improve their grades considerably.

What you believe about yourself becomes your self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you condemn yourself for failing to grasp ideas, forgetting things, or having limited intelligence, you are giving your subconscious mind specific instructions to shut down your intelligence.

If, on the other hand, you appreciate your mental skills, you will pay more attention to enhancing them.

You get more of what you reinforce.

Thinking well of yourself, thinking well of your mental powers, will increase your capacity to understand and remember.

7. Get smart by playing chess.

Chess and mental quizzes like crossword puzzles force you to think and remember. They stimulate reasoning, imagination, and concentration. Because they are enjoyable, you will begin to make positive mental associations to being intelligence.

Although these 7 tips show you how to get smarter, they are only the beginning. As you apply these ideas, you will naturally find more ways to improve your intelligence.
