Data Recovery Companies

Data recovery companies offer a variety of products and services, but they are not equally good for your needs. Do not just accept what a company says about its success rate on data recovery. If the company says they have a 100% success rate, that in itself is cause for concern about them. In the best of circumstances, about 60 to 75% of all hard drive data can be recovered. You need to find out how the company deals with that fact and can provide you all of the backup and security you need.

You should ask some questions before you use a data recovery company to gage their success rate, experience, professionalism and services. Once you have the information you need then you can make an informed decision about which data recovery company to use,

The data backup capabilities of the company are also important to consider. Some companies have only on line backup or only off site backup. If you want to be sure your data is secure, you will want both on line and off site backup. Backup is so important because it is not possible to do 100% data recovery no matter what a company may tell you. Data recovery is most likely to be in the 60 to 75 % range even with the best data recovery company.

You will need to investigate the mechanical repair capabilities of the companies that you consider. If you still have a hard drive warranty in place, the company you select should be authorized to work under that warranty. The last thing you want is to lose your warranty because a data recovery company is not authorized to open the hard drive, so be sure to get verification in writing.

If you do not have a warranty, you'll need to know the company's rates for repairs, including the costs of labor and replacement parts. The data recovery company should be able to provide you with information on their staff's technical capabilities for mechanical repairs on your type of system. A good company should be able to give you a breakout of the costs of typical repairs for your type of system before you sign any contact.

Data recovery companies price their services in different ways, so sometimes it is difficult to compare costs. If the company gives you a quote that provides a broad range, press them to provide details. Any time a company says that some service is free, find out exactly what that means. Ask the company to provide a breakdown of costs for each different service. It's also advisable to ask for an estimate of costs for replacement parts that could conceivably be needed for your system.

If you are sure to ask for specifics from each company before signing a contract, you are less likely to face problems in the middle of a data problem. You don't want your data recovery company giving you a bill for costs that were hidden previously. It should be clear in the contract that the company must seek approval for any services or products beyond the original scope of work. That will protect you from having them install extras that you don't need in the middle of a crisis.

These precautions will help you to select a data recovery company that will do the best possible job for your needs. In addition, you will be sure that you don't pay more than necessary to ensure that your data is secure.
