Vital Information about Fire Safes for Your Business
A fireproof safe will protect your valuables from theft like all other safes but they give you the added protection against fire also. This is a very important feature if you are storing important documents or cash in your safe.
If you are buying a fireproof safe to protect cash or documents then you need to look for a higher fireproof rating for adequate protection. How they arrive at this rating is to subject the safe to a fire of seventeen hundred degrees and see how long it takes for the interior of the safe to rise to over three hundred fifty degrees. They will be rated in increments starting at thirty minutes and going to several hours.
As long as the temperature remains at three hundred fifty degrees or less then documents cannot be damaged. The best fireproof safes will also have a media rating, which means that it will hold the temperature and humidity inside the safe at levels that will not harm electronic equipment such as a laptop computer.
Another rating that all safes should carry is the burglary rating which tells how many minutes it takes to break into a safe. Another thing that you will have to decide is what type of locking mechanism you want. The types to choose from are mechanical combination dial, mechanical key locks, electronic keypads and biometric locks. A biometric lock uses a scanner to scan the owners fingerprint as the combination.
The electronic keypad locks seem to be the most dependable and have the least trouble and the biometric locks are the safest. With the electronic and biometric locks, access to the safe is logged. This is handy if more than one person has access to the safe.
When choosing a fireproof safe there are several factors that will determine exactly what type of safe you need. Some of the things that you need to consider is where you live are you in the country. Are you close to the fire department? How safe is your community? What type of building is the safe going to be in? Is the building made of wood brick metal etc what are you going to be putting in the safe? This will determine the size it needs to be. Another factor is going to be how much you can afford to spend and what level of security that you want.
