Vacuum Cleaner Shopping Tips

Aug 17, 2007
Are you frustrated by all the different makes and models of vacuum cleaners out there? You want to get a good quality vacuum cleaner that will last a long time and save money in the process. You can often save money on vacuum cleaners by buying online.

Make sure the height of the machine can be set low enough and that the plate and wheels don't scratch your floors. Look into the lightweight options to find vacuum cleaners that'll be easier to push, carry, and store. You may want an 'after motor' 'true HEPA filter' in a sealed system.

Vacuums with replaceable bags can add up each year adding significant cost to your initial purchase. A good vacuum cleaner should maintain constant suction. Bagless models use a series of filters to trap dirt in a dust cup while allowing air to pass through the machine; however, they can be very messy to empty.

Many people find they don't like to bend over to move the vacuum around so prefer an upright over a canister. Consider where the vacuum cleaner will be stored to make sure it will fit the space. Do you want an upright or canister?

Check the amps of the vacuum cleaner. You may want to find a canister vacuum cleaner with wheels that won't scuff or damage your floors. Canister vacuums range in price anywhere from $150 to $1500.

Check out the manufacturer's warranty for the new vacuum, and if your place of purchase will extend the warranty. Of course you want to get the cleanest possible 'clean' for your carpets. You can save a lot of money buying vacuum cleaners online if you do some thorough research first.

The highest priced upright models may carry every available feature; they may be true HEPA vacuums. Make sure the machine feels comfortable. Uprights in the higher price ranges may have suction hoses that are more sturdy and crush resistant.

When shopping for a new vacuum cleaner you want to buy a high quality vacuum cleaner and save money too. A bagless vacuum may leak dust, dust mites, mold spores, fungus, bacteria and allergen particles into the air, so small you may not be able to see all of them but will be cheaper though in the long run, because you're not buying and using up bags. Find out the air watts to get a good indication of its suction power.

You want to get rid of as much dirt, dust, mold spores, fungus, bacteria, dust mites and allergens as possible. HEPA is a type of filter that can trap a large amount of very small particles that other vacuum cleaners recirculate back into the air of your home. There are two different categories of HEPA filters that can make understanding the abilities of your filter confusing. Look for the serial number and test results that are printed on true or absolute HEPA filters; make sure that the test results at .3 microns are 99.97 percent or above.

HEPA type or HEPA-like filters may be made in similar ways to true HEPA filters and may resemble them but do not have to meet the same standards as true or absolute HEPA filters. When shopping for vacuum cleaners it's a good idea to take your health - (allergies, asthma, respiratory health, back health and physical health) into consideration. HEPA filters trap small particles that may cause respiratory and other problems for asthma and allergy sufferers and others with health problems.

Don't be totally dazzled by a complete array of attachments. And just a reminder to make sure you check the warranty. A vacuum should last for many years with proper care.
